Mal's move:
ROWAN: Captain, I mentioned it to Kaylee before, but I have some experience with Firefly systems. I'm sure she knows her business better than I ever will, but an extra pair of hands might be appreciated right now.
[Mal briefly considers shooting Rowan, just lightly, for talking out of turn, but decides some might consider that overreacting. Instead, he replys:]
"Shu muh? Did I ask you to speak? Hell, you're jing tzahng mei yong duh here so you might as well go. Tell Kaylee I need this boat ready to fly ten minutes ago."
"Doc, you got your mei-mei under control?"
[At Simon's nod, Mal turns back to Damon.]
"Three down, one to go. I'm feelin' pien doh juh juh tyaren right now. Your story better not rile me any more. So talk."

Damon's turn:
Damon nearly drops his bowl of food as the captain suddenly starts another yelling charade. His hand was half way to his gun when he snaps it back up, mumbling a curse and holds it in the air.
The captain glares at him, still holding his gun. "Three down, one to go. I'm feelin' pien doh juh juh tyaren right now. Your story better not rile me any more. So talk."
"Alright, alright... I took a job a while back, some people needed a gunman to help get someone out of some Alliance hell hole and into Cryo- a girl I think don't know who she was. The money was good so I did it. Everything seemed to go fine we got her out but somehow I got IDed by the Feds. So now they're after me cuz I got infomation on the underground people who hired me."
Damon stands quietly watching the captain with his right hand still in the air.
I'm not broken, in my dream I win...

Rowan's Move:
--------------------
Mal briefly considers shooting Rowan, just lightly, for talking out of turn, but decides some might consider that overreacting.
--------------------
Seeing another of the captain's black looks, Rowan decides what she just told Damon is more true than even she realizes. If she has to guess, she would say that officer's coat he was wearing when he came on board wasn't some timely purchase from a second-hand store. That means Reynolds is a veteran of the war - browncoat through and through who had to do all manner of unpleasantness while fighting for what he believed in, and in the end just to survive.
Feeling Book's cautionary touch on her arm, Rowan awaits Reynolds' decision. Will he have the common sense to give her an occupation and remove her pesky presence from his business? Or will she ultimately be standing in the dust with Damon and the creature calling himself Slight, contemplating dehydration on a long walk back to the docks.
--------------------
Mal: "Shu muh? Did I ask you to speak? Hell, you're jing tzahng mei yong duh here so you might as well go. Tell Kaylee I need this boat ready to fly ten minutes ago."
--------------------
ROWAN: Dong ma ga ge!
She's already unfolding herself from the chair, and sets her meal down on the center table as she rises. Slipping her feet back into her sandals, she gives the Shepherd a smile.
ROWAN to BOOK (softly): Nothing like working for a tetchy captain to teach you the power of prayer, is there Shepherd?
More than happy to be out of that kitchen, and away from the captain in particular, Rowan fairly sprints down the passageway to the engine room. Standing inside, appreciating the warmth of the place, she listens for the tell-tale sounds of tinkering.
ROWAN: Kaylee? Do you need anything?
EOM
Translations:
Shu muh - What?
jing tzahng mei yong duh - frequently useless
dong ma ga ge - understood sir
OOC: Always a good idea to respect the captain, even when he's disrespecting you
Thanks for the escape route, Geezer!

Book's Move
Location: Galley
Book waits patiently as events begin to unfold, eating his stew down in mighty bites, and polishing off another roll. Hoping that Mal won't completely lose his composure, Book finishes his bowl and sets it down on the table in front of him just after Mal raises his gun. The clunk of the bowl hitting the table puncuating the end of Mal's sentence.
As Damon tells his brief tale, Book's eyes flash quickly to River and Simon. The young doctor appears too stunned to speak, or perhaps just reluctant in the present company.
Book waits, and Rowan breaks him from thought with a touch and a few relevant words.
--------------------------
ROWAN to BOOK (softly): Nothing like working for a tetchy captain to teach you the power of prayer, is there Shepherd?
--------------------------
Book starts to give a soft reply, but Rowan stands and is gone in a flash of black, leaving Book with an open mouth. Standing quietly, before anyone has the chance to say anything more, Book moves unconcernedly to River, moving past Inara and Simon, he helps River to her feet and leads her gently from the galley down to her quarters.
Book to River
"I need your help with something."

Inara's turn
MAL:"Three down, one to go. I'm feelin' pien doh juh juh tyaren right now. Your story better not rile me any more. So talk."
Inara pushes her bowl away, placing her chopsticks neatly on the rim. She sits back, hands folded demurely in her lap, her soft eyes glint with curiousity.
DAMON:
"Alright, alright... I took a job a while back, some people needed a gunman to help get someone out of some Alliance hell hole and into Cryo- a girl I think don't know who she was.
Inara glances over at River, noticing the girl's now-obvious distress at Damon's proclaimation. She begins to reach toward River, her mothering instincts not letting her ignore the girl's pain.
-----------------
Book moves unconcernedly to River, moving past Inara and Simon, he helps River to her feet and leads her gently from the galley down to her quarters.
-----------------
Inara watches Book's retreating back, his head is bent over River, one arm over her shoulders, shielding her tiny body. She can hear the fading sounds of his mumbled comfort.
Inara turns her attention back to Damon--the man seems beaten but alert--he's bleeding from a split lip and several facial abrasions. One hand hovers in midair. Things could go very badly--she knows from experience Mal doesn't take very well to threatening body language.
Inara arches a brow skeptically in Damon's direction.
Inara: you expect us to believe you did nothing more than get identified, and the Feds are that desperate to get at you?
to Simon: Do you remember seeing this man with those that delivered River?
Inara glances up at Mal--he has that hard glint in his eyes that says things are truly not going his way, and he means to remedy the situation. She beings to fear for this Damon's life.
End Inara's turn
ooc-sorry if I got a few things wrong, guys--kid's nagging a LOT today--let me know if I messed up anything and I'll remedy it

Damon's turn:
Damon looks over to the fancy woman as she starts speaking to him. "You expect us to believe you did nothing more than get identified, and the Feds are that desperate to get at you?"
Damon opens his mouth to reply but she turns to the doctor before he can respond. "Do you remember seeing this man with those that delivered River?"
"I didn't help with the delivery," Damon says, "I helped get her out of the facility." He looks over to the doctor with a look of confusion on his face. "Who's he?"

Mal's move:
[Mal is astounded by Damon's claim that he was involved in River's rescue. He sees the same shock on Simon's face. Irritated at first when Inara starts speaking, he sees she is actually getting useful information from the wounded boy, and decides to let her continue.]

Wash's Move:
WASH, thinking the yelling seems to have died down, figures he might be able to find out what's going on without getting himself shot in the process. He is very careful about being quiet - but not stealthy - so's not to interrupt or make anyone in the galley any more twitchy than they already are. He stops in the door of the galley, and leans against the frame, arms crossed, listening to the conversation with one ear cocked toward the bridge in case KAYLEE should call up with some news about when they might be movin' again.
End Move.

Zoe's Move
ZOE sees the the situation, which has been calming a bit, could get ugly again if DAMON keeps asking questions. She moves her hand slightly away from her rifle, relaxes her stance, and looks the man full in the face.
To DAMON: "Might be a good idea if you answered the rest o' the cap'n's questions, before you start askin' any more o' your own. You can see that he don't much like bein' put off. Might also want to hand over your gun, 'fore your hand bein' near it gets you shot."
ZOE keeps her right hand in its neutral position, and puts out her left hand for DAMON's gun.
End Move.
Edit: Oops! I forgot that Damon already gave his name...

Kaylee's Move
Location: Engine Room
Kaylee is tinkering around her engine, muttering to herself all the while.
"Stupid "gift"...be just as happy w'out it...hope the Cap'n don't ask...just once, why can't things go a'cordin' to plan?"
Rowan smiles as she hears Kaylee's last phrase. Sounds like something the Captain would say. She asks if there's anything she can do to help.
Kaylee jerks up, banging her head on the engine. Turning (& rubbing a spot on her scalp), she sees Rowan standing in the doorway.
"Uh...no, I think I got it. Thanks jus' the same." Guiltily she slides her eyes away from Rowan's gaze. She'd hate for anyone to find out just how she came to be on board Serenity, and why she's still here. It's just too humliating.
Kaylee turns back to her work, her heart heavy.
End Move

OOC: Astriana, maybe you missed it, but Damon already gave his name... several posts ago
Damon's turn:
Damon looks to the woman facing him.
"Might be a good idea if you answered the rest o' the cap'n's questions, before you start askin' any more o' your own. You can see that he don't much like bein' put off. Might also want to hand over your gun, 'fore your hand bein' near it gets you shot."
A worried look passes over Damon's face. He looks up at his right hand still in the air and then down to his gun in his holster as if it were more important than the air he was breathing. Things were going from bad to worse and now they wanted the only comfort he had. He looks back up to the woman as if asking if he really had to give it up but he knows by the look on her face that she wouldn't hesitate to shoot him if he refused.
He slowly puts the bowl of food in his right hand and reaches down for his gun with his left. He carefully pulls the weapon from his belt, and reluctantly places it in her outstreatched hand.
"What else do you want to know?"
