Rowan's Move:
Location: Engine room…hiding.
------------------
Kaylee: "Uh...no, I think I got it. Thanks jus' the same."
------------------

Good grief, she’s adorable, Rowan thinks again. Pretty young to be a ship’s mechanic, gifted or not, and bold to be taking on care of an engine on her own, particularly with a captain who seemed more than happy to have temper tantrums at the drop of a hat.

ROWAN: Makes no never mind to me. I was just looking for someplace to hide anyway, just in case there’s shooting about to start. You wouldn’t mind if I just sit in here for a couple of minutes? I figure no one will fire in this direction for fear of hitting something important.

Stepping to the side where a hammock and a little living area has been set up, she turns to peer down the passageway again, then crouches down into a ball on the deck, hugging her knees. With a quick toss of her head to get her hair out of the way, she looks at Kaylee and sees that she's re-emerged from the engine casing to give her a surprisingly guarded look.

ROWAN: I won’t touch anything, promise.

Kaylee's Move:
Location: Watching Rowan warily

Kaylee looks over at the beautiful woman crouched near her hammock.

"I got no problem with ya hiding out back here, provided the Cap'n knows yer still on board. He can get powerfully riled up when things don't go his way, but he's a good Captain and he'll give ya a fair shake if ya let 'em."

Kaylee's eyes sparkle as she talks about her Captain. Bending back to her work, she starts to hum a little. Her bad moods never last very long.

Inara's turn

Inara's shoulders relax as Damon removes his weapon and places it in Zoe's hand. She can feel Mal do the same, though he still keeps stiffly at attention.

TO DAMON:
Well, we here on Serenity can definitely understand accepting a job just because it pays well.

Inara looks pointedly at Mal, then shifts her gaze to Simon, who seems to be lost in thought, a deep crease furrowing his brow.

Inara give Zoe a grateful look: now that he's the only one armed, perhaps Mal can let shine his usual generous and easygoing self.

Inara stands up, smoothing her skirts and making a move toward the hallway between the engine room and dining room, intending to check on Kaylee/Rowan, then go get River the dolls she bought her earlier.

*waits to see if anyone stops her*

Damon's turn:

"Well, we here on Serenity can definitely understand accepting a job just because it pays well." The rich looking woman gets up and moves past him to get to the door.
Does that include collecting rewards for fugitives, he wonders silently. He decides to keep his mouth shut until he finds out what else the captain wants to know and hopes that his day won't get any worse.

Rowan’s Move:
Location: Engine room…hiding and hopefully befriending Kaylee

Listening to the humming of what sounds like a formal waltz, Rowan can't help admiring the girl for her devotion to a man with all the finesse of a freight train. Seeing her eyes sparkle gets her to wondering if it might not run just a bit deeper than a mechanic’s regard for her captain. Breathing a sigh, she relaxes, content to watch Kaylee go about her work.

ROWAN: He’s the one who shooed me out of the kitchen - my own fault, really for being too eager about adding my two cents in. We talked already about my going to New Hikido, part paid, part barter, but it seems no one can figure out what to do with me.

Then she nods, conceding that what she says isn’t entirely true.

ROWAN: Well, except for the big guy in the galley. His ideas for me were pret-ty clear. I got the impression from Shepherd Book, though, that any idea of grappling with him would be ill-conceived.

Slight stands with the Companion. "I'd like to speak with her. The girl. I know she's afraid of me, doctor. I want to give her some assurances, but also a warning."
Slight then turns his gaze to Thorne. "And then I think you and I should have a long talk. It would seem we have some catching up to do."

Kaylee's Move:

Laughing a little, Kaylee considers what Rowan's just told her.

"Jayne's not a bad sort, really. He's just...Jayne. Ya shoulda seen him when 'Nara had a female client on board. Don't think I saw him all day. Sometimes he's a lug--I know the type, I got brothers--but he's reliable. Try not ta take what he says too personal. Any man that still writes ta his ma ain't all bad, yeah?"

Kaylee smiles at Rowan reassuringly.

Book's Move

Location: River's Room

Book leads the confused River to her room and humming a soothing melody, puts a blanket around her shoulders. He turns at the door on his way out.

Book to River

"I need you to stay here for a little while, alright little one? I'll be right outside."

Book closes the door to River's room and also the doors to the surrounding passenger rooms. He goes out to the common area, walks halfway up the aft stairs and stops to listen.

Book hears a semi-muffled voice which he believes belongs to Brink Helsing

----------------
"I'd like to speak with her. The girl. I know she's afraid of me, doctor. I want to give her some assurances, but also a warning."
----------------

Book to himself

"Not gonna happen."

Book goes back down the aft stairs and plants himself squarely at the bottom of them, waiting.

Brink sees the shepard, and stops. It only takes him a glance to see what's about.
"Shepard, I don't mean harm to anyone here. Anyone anywhere, for that matter. I've done a great manner of monstrosities. I'm fairly sure you're God wouldn't even care to take to the time to smight me, and blast me to the Void. But, I'm done with that. I left the Blue Sun to help that girl, because she is in a danger that none of know. And what's more, I can cure her. She will have to make that choice, but I want her to make it, and not some preacher who thinks badly of all those who look like demons."
Slight gives a small smile.
"Or would you like to test me with a cross?"

OOC-gotta go for the evenin, see y'all tomorrow!
