it is easy to take things personally online but really there is very wide latitude here,
even people who are being intentionally obnoxious don't get banned
(ridiculed or ignored, but not banned)

You see, even when I just ask a question I instigate something. And Kanemans a broad (no offense ladies)? I didn't see that coming...

I'm starting to figure things out (I hope) and realizing that tone is something sometimes hard to discern on these things. Thanks for the help and advice.

NOW YOU'RE GETTING IT!

Without verbal queues like tone of voice or visual queues like facial expressions, it's EXTREMELY easy to be misinterpreted. What you write and what someone else reads can often be two totally different things.

Best advice:

Avoid sarcasm, as it doesn't come across at all in a written medium.

Be clear and concise in what you write, in order to minimize the opportunity for others to misinterpret what you mean.

Never use a big word where a miniscule one will suffice.

And if all else fails, and someone takes offense at something you e-write, well then f

k 'em.

Fellowtraveler, you've been doing just fine.

One of the things you may want to use to help folks understand where you're attitude is is emoticons. They'll help folks know when you're just joshing with 'em ---> and all.

Yeah, there's several unhappy ones for like stubbing your toe --> or for opinions about F*X but they're all there to help communicate inflections. Use 'em. Go wild.

One rule I can think of is, if you don't want it said to you, don't say it to anyone else.

So relax, have a drink of your choice and enjoy!
