Yes, back on topic... sorry, it's all those pics of Nathan.. they contribute to my inability to think straight. And I have enough trouble with that anyway.
I believe that the only requirement for being a Browncoat is that you love the 'verse. Along with that love will come a desire to share that joy with others and to want more. Also hand and hand with that is the need to be with other folks who feel the same way. That usually always means coming here. Then you can't leave. You don't want to. Why would you? Just like Serenity, this is home.

I'll bet they would tell you not to. They would tell you that they are lifted up each time a new person joins and says those magic words about loving Firefly. They would tell you that all the new folks, each and every one, means hope for the future. They would say that we're needed... because they're getting tired of doing it all themselves and they will appreciate our help.

I think ALL of us that help keep the dream alive are Browncoats... Maybe not veteran Browcoats (yet), but browncoats just the same...
Every unit gets FNGs, and soon enough they become "The old hands"...
Besides, We'll get our chance to do our part, cause this fight ain't over by a LONG shot.. While others fall by the wayside, we're still here swinging... "The person that won't quit, that just keeps going, gets the job done".
