Prayer "works" in the minds of theists. That's good enough for me. We shouldn't knock it.
No more...No less
Name me a "Society" that is not "religious". It doesn't exist.
And, this post is for flame. Why else would you ask these stupid fuc*ing questions? Let me guess it keeps you awake at night. Give it a rest asshole. The only lamer thread I ever read was "Did we have an online wake for wash?"
We are doomed. This site has turned rancid. All of your posts are here just to argue and piss each other off. Don't you guys have better shit to do. Get laid, have a beer, fuc* your selves....Well, it's true

Does Prayer Work?
That's a case by case thing, and more dependant on what the people praying/prayed for believe, and how strongly.
For mine own, I'd take two hands helping over a thousand clasped in Prayer - which is not to say you can't Pray *WHILE* helping, couldn't hurt, I guess.

Are Religious People Happier & More Moral?
It's been my experience in this day and age that happiness and morality are mutually exclusive, our society has become so warped and sociopathic that truly moral people do a lot of unhappy suffering, and immoral pyschopaths are gleefully rewarded at every turn and corner.
More moral, as a general rule, and in my experience, that I will give you, with the caveat that this includes ANY religion - truly devout people have generally been better behaved as far as i've seen... but most of them have not been happy, no, for obvious reasons stated above.

Are Religious Societies Healthier?
No.
As soon as you make it expected or mandatory, or even strongly encouraged, you devalue the belief system itself and poison the well by adding tons of folk not-devout, mouthing the words out of fear.
