It's about love. If you really love something, you tinker with it, revise it, go over it so often that you know every nut, bolt, and scratch in the panelling. Love means putting effort into something even when you don't have to, and that effort translates as attention to detail.
Lucas loves spectacle, and all his movies have the greatest effects he can give them. Every shot perfectly framed, every pixel showing off. Lucas is about showing us things we've never seen before, and that's what he does best. (In fact, one of the biggest problems with RotS is that it shows too much, giving away the big reveals in the original trilogy --reveals that give the entire saga its emotional weight.)
Joss loves the Story. The characters, the relationships, the way their surroundings express and affect them --I don't think Joss is capable of making something as ham-fistedly showy as the SW prequels.

One of the biggest problems I had with the Star Wars prequels was that Lucas hadn't directed a movie since the orginal A New Hope.
I know he'd produced many films and probably had a large hand in the creation and development of them - but he hadn't directed.
In my mind he was still making movies like it was the 70's and 80's.
For comparison look at TV shows back then to now.
Most episodes had a happy ending (or at least by the end of a two-parter).
Very few standalone episodes ended with a cliffhanger and the end of a season certainly did not.
Today it's almost expected to have the twists and cliffhangers (Lost, 24, X-Files to name a few).
Lucas couldn't distinguish the difference, he never seemed to realize that a lot of his main audience would now be adults not the kids we were back them.
If Joss keeps working and directing I don't think he will have a problem if the 'Verse ever came back in some form. He has respect for the fans and knows without them there is nothing.
Lucas on the other hand knew that his prequels would make money. People would watch whatever he put out there. It reminds me of a Star Trek quote I read once about one of the games and the same now applies to Star Wars.
"You could put a piece dog go-se in a box and put a Star Trek logo on it and it would sell by the millions."
Lucas lost his way, let's hope Joss doesn't.

Yup. I have to agree with that. His roast on Comedy Central (or the 15 minutes I saw, anyway) was really something.

I LOVED Shatner on (I believe it was SNL) when he pointed to the guy wearing spock ears and said, "You, Have you ever even kissed a woman??" (The guy's shaking his head "no")
I 'bout busted a gut...
My Other Fav Startrek moment was when Gene Roddenberry was talking about "Trekkies" at a convention and someone in the crowd yelled "TREKKERS!".. Gene said, "Don't tell ME what they're called! I INVENTED the damned thing!"
BTW, Shatner owns a CASTLE up in Kentucky.. actually it's a 360 acre horse ranch, but the kids love to point at it when we travel in that area to see family.

I think I'll beg to differ with this. The thing that Joss is outstanding at, as a storyteller, is remembering that nothing in life is static. Folks grow and change, the world around them does, too, and people die. Where the real storytelling comes in is still making it work, not by ignoring that they were ever there, but by showing how the loss changes those left behind.
I want to see Zoe struggle day to day, while missing her husband and I want to see if she just hides it all, or if the family the crew has become will allow her to open up and express her loss in some other way than we saw in the BDM.
I want to see Mal about to do something well off center morality-wise and then reconsider when someone points out that Shepherd Book would have had a cow (insert joke here) if they'd have done that when he was alive/onboard. I also want to see who Mal will go to for guidence when he's in a quandry. He needs to bounce things off someone who doesn't answer to him. Will it be Inara? Simon? River?
It's these little things that mushroom into the larger picture and what ends up mattering most. That is something Lucas has never figured out and never will. (That and Lucas writes the suckiest dialogue in Hollywood.)
