I was underwelmed by this one. I think they tried to do way too much.

The whole east india trading corporation plot line should have been dropped. They used it to get Elizabeth and Will back on the adventure track with Jack and for a point for Norington to come into the story. They shouldn't have needed a reason to get Jack and Will back together. At the end of the last movie it sure seemed like Will was ready to become a pirate and join Jack's crew. I don't think it would have been that much of a stretch for him to be out there with Jack at the get go.

The cannibal adventure wasn't needed and should have been left on the cutting room floor.

To me they made a mistake with Davey Jones. He didn't have a personality like Barbossa had. With Barbossa you could tell why he did what he did and while you didn't really want him to win, you didn't hate him either. With Davey you don't know what he's really all about. He's just a jerk with some crazy sea powers that have no explination.

There were way way way too many people with all sorts of different motives in the movie. IMO they didn't need to bring back Norington at all. Seems he was really just there for the crazy wheel fight and the switchero at the end just so they can have another movie. I didn't think they needed the two pirates from barbossa's crew from the first movie either. They were just there for comic relief, but everyone in that movie is comic relief at some point.

The forced love triangle was really out of left field and should have been cut.

It would have been really nice if they had just kept it to Davey Jones vs. Jack. Then if they wanted a 3rd movie they could have held off the reveal of Will's dad being on Davey Jones ship until the end right before Jack destroyed them or something. Then it could be Will vs. Jack for a while and end with the heart being lost and Jack getting eaten.

I just saw this picture and have to admit my disappointment. Slapstick I can take, but the begining of the movie was disjointed. To many tangents. Not till Captain Sparrow gets the black mark on his hand did I finally get a grasp of what this movie was leading to. I think they could have done this quicker and left the cannibals out of it. A lot of wasted space messing with those cannibals if you ask me. Now I gotta see a second one if I want to know the end of the story. I'm tempted to wait till the DVD, even if it takes two years.

THE WATER WHEEL FIGHT

didn't like it not at all

those who are interested in fun and believable sword play need to hunt out the 70's Three Musketeers, and the sequel Four Musketters

as I remember as a young'un
they were funny and brutal and just an all around good time

all-star cast for early 70's and cool fights

and the water wheel fight kicks ass

Well, I liked the first one OK, but the 2nd one was leaden. And I know Johnny Depp is playing "quirky" with Capt. Jack but is it me or did he appear downright drunk all the damn time. But I guess if I had to be in that Disney / Alliance customer cash sucking excuse for a film, I'd be hittin' the ol' bottle regularly too. God, this was so un-enjoyable to me. And I'm thinking... They spent, what, $150-mil on this thing? That's 4 more "Serenity" movies, easy. And then when you consider Joss spent a measley $39-mil on "Serenity" and it gets (virtually) ignored while the "Pirates" Juggernaut will roll on with its 3rd installment cuz they filmed it at the same time -- so them knowing they was gonna make coin no matter how bad it was, seems like any pretense of TRYING to make a half-way decent movie was ignored by practically all. This is a perfect example to me of how the Hollywood blockbusters so often reek -- and nobody seems to utter a peep about the wasted money -- while a truly well-written, action-packed, thoroughly character-engaging gem like "Serenity" (which I saw BEFORE I ever say "Firefly" btw) gets hemmed and hawed over cuz all it did was break even so they don't think there's gonna be a sequel.

This is definitely a movie that has to be seen twice to actually be appreciated. I left the first time feeling somewhat disappointed. It just seemed to be lacking something that was in the first movie. I agree that the scene with the water wheel was unnecessarily long and pointless. Hopefully the third movie will be better.

"You're talking to Serenity. And Early...Serenity is very unhappy."

Individually, looking at all the different elements (the cannibals, the water wheel fight, etc.), they wouldn't be so bad - but, together, it's confusing and annoying, and just way too much stuff. Although, I must admit, the ending was really neat (definately wasn't expecting the apple-obsessed captain).

I'd have to say my favorite person was whoever plays Norrington (wait, I'll Google him...), Jack Davenport, because that was nice.

Probably my least favorite part about the entire movie was Elizabeth's part. There was almost no lead-up to her being all tough-and-stuff, especially after the very beginning, and she goes back and forth from "Look, I can swordfight!" to "Oh, I hate all pirates!" Not that I ever liked her character to begin with... but, ugh!

I hope the second one gets to the point, and fast, otherwise...
