Earlier:
Helo Holding Facility

Some days are harder than others, especially for men like Leon Rae whose job involved keeping order in Helo. As if watching over the various inmates and giving orders to the guards wasn’t stressful enough, there were also the odd days where he’d have to deal with outside political bodies.

Leon was not against The Alliance, after all, they do bring order to a chaotic universe. But when they get in the way of him doing his job, that’s when his feelings toward them change.
Helo was an independent facility. That was why he took the job so many years ago as a lowly prison guard. He didn’t want to have to deal with The Alliance’s laws and insidious methods. But this was one of those days where he just had to sit back and allow them to do their job – even if it did mean they were stepping on his toes and doing what he felt was immoral.
He’d learnt that when it came to men wanted by the alliance, the less he knew the better. That way, when they come and do what they feel is necessary, Leon doesn’t have to second guess them, content on telling himself that the criminal in question was both guilty and deserving of said punishment.

“Boss” a voice called out from the open door to Leon’s office
Standing before him was Lance, one of the latest Guards to be transferred to Helo
“What is it?” Leon replied.
“Looks like the feds are here to pick up your prisoner”
Leon sighed before muttering “I’ll be there in a minute”
---
As Leon was led to the Alliance officers in question, he found that they weren’t planning on waiting around and already were situated outside Cell 15H waiting for the prisoner named Milton Reeve to be handed over to them. Leon looked the two female officers up and down.
“I.D.?” he requested
“We’ve already been through this. Must you waste more of our time?” one of the officers spoke confidently.
“It’s protocol”
Both officers waved their ID cards at him, before the one that spoke before continued “Satisfied? Now if you don’t mind, this is an important matter we need to take care of, and if you don’t comply with our wishes right now then we will be forced to take action. And I imagine you would like to keep your job”
Leon rolled his eyes before instructing the guard positioned at the door to let them in.
“Alliance” he groaned to himself
After entering the cell, it didn’t seem to take much effort to drag the prisoner out. Maybe the man in question knew it was pointless to struggle. He would have been right.
As the two officers leave the premises with Mr Reeve in tow, Leon imagines what the prisoner must have been like – a baby-killer, a rapist… As hard as he tried though, he couldn’t convince himself of it. Instinct told him that this was just the Alliance being the Alliance. Following their own rules, innocent parties be damned.

Carl Perry stared at the screen of his cortex long after Kyra had thrown hers into the river, ruining the device and causing the call to be disconnected.

Telling her the bad news was not something he wanted to do, but he felt that he was the best person to do it. However, he did want to do it in person. He wanted to be there for her, to hold her and provide the comfort she needed. But she had forced his hand, she never would have come in to work, not in the state she had got herself in. Now Carl feared he had only made it worse.
As the cortex beeped repeatedly with a single message flashing on the screen, Carl sighed before pressing the “End Call” function. The message “Connection Error” was immediately replaced with the name-brand of the cortex and a picture of the editor’s family in the background.

He bit his bottom lip, before placing the device on his desk, struggling to hold back his anger; his frustration; his helplessness.
Jumping out of his chair, he walks towards the door of his office and opens it.
Sitting just outside is a tired-looking man, approximately thirty years old. His hair is thin on top, but neatly kept. His attire consisting of a cheap brownish suit and worn shoes. All evidence pointed to a man of little means, but one who felt that dressing one’s best at all times was important. Pity his best wasn’t good enough.
Even though it wasn’t the first time the man had been in Carl’s office, the editor still looked him up and down, astonished at the man’s fashion sense.
Carl may have been a decent caring man, but growing up with the upper-class family he had, he could not help judge people by the way they looked, even looking down on them somewhat. It was a weakness he would readily admit to, and one he had tried again and again to shake.

“Thanks for coming in again Alec” Carl feigned a smile
“No problem mister Perry”
Carl had given up on insisting he be called by his first name.
“I just wanted to thank you for all the information you’ve given us. It’s been a great help in our ongoing investigation”
“Sure.”
“And I wanted you to know how grateful I am for it” Carl says as he opens a drawer of his desk and pulls out an unsealed envelope.
Walking up to the seated man, he holds out the envelope, encouraging him to take it
With hesitance, Alec takes the item from his hands and sneaks a peak inside.
His eyes express genuine shock as he realises not only is it money, but a fair amount too.
“I can’t…”
“Yes you can. You gave us information only the Alliance knew. We never would have found out if you hadn’t told us”
“But… I didn’t do it for this. I just told you because I thought you should know. If the Alliance killed innocent people, I’d want to know. They shouldn’t get away with it, even if they are the police.”
“I know and you’re right, which is why your willingness to come forward deserves to be rewarded. Take it. Maybe I’ll see you around again sometime”
For the first time, Carl sees something different in Alec. Before he had only seen a simple soul, but for a brief moment he witnesses something else, as if a façade was lifted and only now was he looking at the real “Alec”. Then, just as quickly, the man before him returned to his innocent routine.
“Thanks” he said before scuffling off towards the door.

Kyra entered her apartment with a determination she had not experienced for as long as she could remember.
She had been pushed to the tether, and could see no longer see any other way out.
The system was crooked. Those independents she had read and written about had the right idea. Something needed to be done.

Heading for her bedroom she pulled open the middle drawer of her bedside table.
If there was one benefit of having a husband desert you within a year of being married, it was that they rarely pack everything up. Something belonging to them normally gets left behind.

Usually, she wouldn’t touch the object. Before now, she hadn’t even been able to bring herself to pick it up and throw it out. But that was then, and this is now.

Removing the pistol from underneath the pile of sundries, she quickly slipped it into her inside jacket pocket, before leaving the room and heading for her final destination.
---

As the Alliance officers headed for their copter, the talkative one whispered something into the ear of their prisoner.
The words brought relief to Milton, but he knew it wasn’t over yet. In fact, in many ways, his journey was just beginning.

Whilst the silent officer sits in the back of the stolen Alliance copter with him, the other officer takes her position in the co-pilot’s seat.

Breathing a collective sigh of relief, the two women and male pilot look at each other as they smile at their accomplishment.

“What did I tell you?” the officer asks the pilot sitting beside her.

“You were right” the man responds.

“Amy’s a genius”

The ex-alliance officer lifts the copter into the air and makes haste to their base of operations.

A nervous Milton turns to the grinning woman sitting quietly beside him. “Do I know you?”

“No” she responds quickly. “But we’ve got a friend in common”

Milton waits for her to tell him who the friend in question is, but the answer is not forthcoming, at least, not yet.

Undoing his handcuffs and casting them to the floor, she holds her hand out for him to shake. “My name’s Versa.”

Hesitantly he accepts the hand and greets her.
“Welcome to the resistance” she tells him

In the front of the copter, the two accomplices laugh at the relative ease in which they gained access to Helo.

“You’re good Flechette, I’ve gotta say” the pilot tells her

“No Jack” Flechette responds with a wicked grin “I’m fantastic.”

Wisp arrived at the hospital gates about an hour later. The journey was less than a mile but he had to avoid a large group of the community(all the law abiding ones) he'd had to knock out an inocent young business man who was getting a special treat in the alley from a female hobo. The Tramp didnt give a sh*t but the guy instantly lost his...nerve.. as soon as he saw Wisp.

After that there was a close call with Some Feds roughly walking past him. But they were busy chasing a shopliifter. If theyre boss ever found out the arrested a petty crook over an international fugitive theyd be sent to an asteriod prison to clean showers.

But now he was here it still wasnt over. There were still the feds on the gate and probably some inside. He could start a firefight but at a hospital door theyre were too many innocent bystanders. He would probably have to wait till dark and the changing of the shift.

A mule pulled up between him and the gate with a bunch of shady characters on board. Wisp couldnt see them clearly from his hiding spot he could just see a man in a Black Coat.

Vixen had been shackled since the incident with Wisp. She had looked very funny going into jail already tied up. She hadnt said anything to anyone, They didnt like her. Except that crazy boy whore- He liked her too much but as he was now crazy hed grown on her. Shed had a breif respite from her bindings when they were released but it was short lived as Seryn soon re-retrained her.

She didnt see the point in searching for Wisp. He Was Dead. For all intents and purposes she should have been too. She didnt credit her injuries by allowing herself to feel pain. Any normal person would want lots of dope and be wincing every time the mule bucked. Any normal woman would be sobbing.

The fall that had caused them was a one in a million chance of survival the chance of 2 people surving it was one in 1000000000000. An impossible probability. She admired the determination of the team to rescue him. Especially Seryn. Vixen presumed that she felt guilty or that she had lost too many friends to abandon one so easily. Vixen settled on the belief that Seryn's life had been so out of control she wanted to control something, anything before she lost all her will.

Safe and his motley crew were just tagging along on this insane hope for Seryn's sake. She could see the looks in theyre eyes that they had resigned themselves to his fate. They were just humouring Seryns ideas for a while before they forced her to accept it.

Soul was entirely different. His eyes gave nothing away. They werent cold just hard, learned, experienced. She didnt think he was here for either Wisp or Seryn. It was like his agenda ran parralell for this part of his journey but could vear off at any time.

Something caught her eye from the back of the mule. She was facing backwards while the others were huddeled at the front debating how to get into the hospital. It was a brown flying jacket. The man wearing was veiled by shadows but a shot of emerald flashed through the black.

"Ermm Miss bitch???" Vixen said in Seryns general direction without emotion.

"What" Seryn did not enjoy her company and it was a wonder she was sat on the back of the mule and not tied to it.

"I believe our mutual friend is cowering in that alleyway"

Seryns eyes lifted and they melted in an instant. Tears welled but did not fall. She was unbelievable happy and quivered slightly but not enough to be noticed. Vixen felt the same, more so even but her exterior was as frigid as ever.

ooc - i've missed a bit - how did Vixen get there? I'm pretty sure no-one has rescued her yet. Unless i've missed a lot?)

Seryn looked at the scrubs, picking them up with a pinch of her fingers.

"Did they not carry them in green?"
Safe startled, but she smiled, half indication of wit and half apology for its lame nature.

She looked around, a few allyways looked close, some even had only a little garbage in them. Stuff it, it was nothing they handn't all seen before a hundred times. She quickly pulled off her shirt, and pulled the top over her head, followed it with the coat and then jumped from the mule, and swaped pants. She was glad the trousers were long enough to mostly cover her shoes. Swiping her hair up into a neat (ish)chignon, she secured it with a pencil and stood back, arms out.

"Do i pass muster?" they looked at her slightly fazed "oh, this is nothing, you should see the bra trick."

She leaned against the side of the mule, taking stock of their surroundings - you could shoot about a place all you liked, and still not learn it as much as if you stood on the ground.

"So, so that we're all on the same page, the plan is...?"

Their small huddle was broken by a few words from the back of the mule, and they all whipped around to look at the figure watching them from an entrance way.

"Well i'll be damned..." Safe shielded his eyes, straining as though to try and clarify what he was seeing. Soul silently slid from the mule to stand behind her, the black of his clothing only adding to the big dangerous cat impression that she'd been getting from him. She wondered if he practiced.

She just kind of froze. Words escaped her. Her eyes stung, but she didn't acknowledge the gathering tears. Rather she refused to believe they existed and concentrated only on the fact that there he was, standing there, non dead.

Well, that was their need to infiltrate the hospitle gone.

Finally she managed a smile, and the three of them crossed slowly, the two men scanning their surroundings, eyeing the few people moving about the area.
She realised she should have been doing this herself, but all her carefull monitoring of their route and location went straight out of her head as they reached the alley and Wisp, and she threw her arms around his neck and gave him the biggest gearhug she could muster.

"Oh you idiot idiot boy! Gorramit i'm so glad you ain't dead. Where have you been?"

She stood back to let the manly back clapping commence, and then froze.

Silouhetted in the daylight at the other end of the alley way were two vaguely human shapes. Bluky and odly proportioned, they coalesced with the change of the light into guard, heavily armed and armoured guards.

Beside her, hands were already on guns, and she thought back ruefully to her own gunbelt lying on her vacated seat.

In silent agreement they began to back towards the mule, and came out to bright sunlight, She and Safe turning to see more guards emerge from the surrounding buildings. A low thrumming impinged upon her conciousness, and Soul confirmed her fear in a low voice... "air support..."

One of them, all of them possibly, had been followed, they'd been walking blithely in. And here she was armed with little more than a pencil.

Looking toward their mule, she realised they were still coser to it than the feds were, but it didn't help them much - all possible exits were blocked, and there was no way they could out run the vehicles.

This time it was Safe's turn to confirm what they all knew.

"Well, we're pretty much trapped. Any ideas?"

(ooc - as always, if this doesn't fit with anyones story, i can edit - but please don't ask, i kinda like it)

"Anybody?"
Safe voice had gained an octave.

"Many" Soul replied "but none that give us a more than a moderate to good chance of gettin out of here with all our significant parts intact"

"Define significant parts?" Safe looked at her, waiting for the jokey grin. It didn't happen.

"So do we run for it, fight it out? give up? what?"
"To many to run"
"To many to shoot"
"Do they have a leader?"
"Theres one way to find out"
"What? 'Take me to your leader'?"
"It's as good as anything else"

She broke away from the group, a few paces out, and raised her hands "Ok, i admit it, it was me who stole all the office stationary, can't i just speak to your boss? maybe... " she shifted her wieght to one hip, dropped her head to a coqettish angle, "...negotiate?"

One guy stepped forward, a mean look on his face, but he wasn't what she would have expected. "This is no time for jokes, you have no comprehension of the trouble you are all in"

"over stationary?"

"Don't mess with me woman" His attitude darkened, and she blanched a little. Keeping her arms raised, she opened her mouth to speak, but he cut her off "HANDS BEHIND YOUR HEAD!"

She complied, and waited, as docile as she could manage, until he got very close.

He leaned into her, she could smell his breath, and the soap he'd used that morning. Her fingers found the pencil in her hair, and gripped it tightly as she swung her self around, pivoting on the spot and bringing her arm round in a swooping circle to drive the tip of the pencil into the soft curve showing at his neck above his armour.

He screammed, the sound cut off into a gurgling, and he fall to his knees, she backed up again, and the shots began - Soul had managed to slip Wisp a gun, and the three took out as many as they could before a voice from the massed guards yelled a ceasfire.

the guy still gurlged on the paving stones - she missed the major life threatening areas. It was just going to be damn painful. All to no end - this wasn't the chaos she'd hoped for, even in well disiplined troop, a superior officer dying usually took some whind out of their sails.

"looks like they don't much like you, mate"
Soul looked at her, a frown on his features "don't tease dying people"
"oh he's not dying, see no blood in his mouth - missed the major stuff, probably just get lead poisoning"
"Pencils are made of graphite"
"Is now really the time to get picky?"
Wisp cut accross the banter "Ok, so Soul, what were thos ideas you had? I'm about ready to take a chance on moderate to good"
"Hell i'd go with fair to middling about now"

OOC sorry i thought vixen was with u. ill reread those posts and put her back in later.

The four of them stood in a vague defence around the mule. No real cover was provided but no-one was shooting. The two teams stared in stalemate. Wisp could see at least 12 of them with a smattering of corpses lying in the least covered areas. The purple body armour melded with the concrete but the crimson fluid that poured out of their shattered bodies flowed in contrast to the grey.

Seryn grabbed the end of the pencil and twisted it in the superiors neck forcing a moan out of him.

"What do you want because starting a firefight isnt the best thing to do before asking for a favour"

"Come now" He replied "None of you are innocent are you??? But were werent here after you all"

"Who??"Safe called from his cover. He threw his words like a grenade then shrunk back behind the mule as if cowering from the effect of them.

"Insignificant now. The arrest and execution of you all will make me a very prosperous man" The mans tone was monstrous. He was almost pleased with his own lack of morals.

"Well youve got a little bit of work to do before you settle down with that nice young virgin in the sunshine"

Seryns hand was still firmly on the makeshift lance protuding from the villains collar. She didnt sheild herself at all. She stood completely in the open as if her bold confidence itself would deflect bullets.

"Not as much as you think" A wicked smile crept across his face which puzzeld Seryn. Why was he so confident in the face of his own death?? Her answer came swiftly in the form of a bullet through her knee. The blood sprayed in a fountain from the joint of her leg as the lead pellet tore a savage pass through the cartlige and flesh like a raging bull in an orphanage.

While The conversation had been going snipers had been set up all around them. It was a trap and no matter how theyd played it the outcome was predestined.

Seryns body crumpled and fell to the floor with a bare moan escaping from her lungs. Bullets flew from everywhere now the three men behind the mule couldnt fire any shots due to the concentraion against them. The air was awash with flying metal. Spent cartidges piled the floor like bodies.

The torrent of projectiles soon found their mark. A bullet grazed Wisps skull knocking him unconsious to the floor. Soon after one of the mettalic dragons ripped a cardinal hole in Safes shoulder resigning him to a sitting position.

Soul continued regardless of his fallen comrades like a man possessed by a daemon. His spirit flowed with anger as his gun tore through the air like a sabre cutting down countless Feds in each stroke. But still more appeared. Like the snipers the reinforcments were fresh and unshaken by theyre leaders mutilation.

He would have fought to his last breath if it wasnt for a concussion grenade knocking him off his feet for a moment. By the time he had touched the floor several feet from where hed been stood a moment ago guns were all around him.

"What shall we do with them sir??" An etherial unembodied underling said.

"Not the jail" The superioir was now being bandaged by a medic as the four warriors were emprisoned "Crimson squad want them. Put them in hospital quarantine its just as secure" he turned round and left the battle site.

As the four were knocked unconsious by a combination of powerful sedatives and cruel blows a lowly ensign was told to secure the mule.

"SIR YES SIR" He had replied with fear veiled by enthusiasm. This wasnt his first firefight but it was more epic than anything hed ever seen. He didnt know it but some of the veterans were feeling the exact same at the carnage that had just subsided.

The sleepy little town nie on the verse hadnt seen as much public rebellion since the war.

The ensign collected all of the weapons dotted around the mule and put thema all ina security bag. When he heard a crying. No it was a muffled scream. His ears were still ringing from the micro explosions that had propelled the bullets amoment ago. He followed the noise and opened the trunk of the mule.

"Huuh"
