Well, as 7 is the only one I've seen completely, I have to go with it. But S6 has my two fav episodes, Tabula Rasa (Spike and Giles, hee hee), and Once More With Feeling.

I'm going to have to go watch Buffy now....

I love 2 for introducing us to the best Vamps EVER: Spike & Drusilla

I love 4 for bringing Spike back and struggling to find a role for a neutered vampire among the Scoobies
"Can't any of you remember I'm EVIL!?!?!"

I love 6 for torturing Spike with the so close but still so far relationship with Buffy that spurs him to find his soul....

and I love 7 for Spike actually finding redemption.

I am still not crazy about 5, although the Buffybot was the funniest thing ever, and Buffy's kiss for Spike because he understood that Dawn had to be protected from Glory, that was one of his best scenes (funny, moving, and kinda sexy)

I liked his Angel appearances.

Great chemistry with both Angel and Illyria. Much abuse taken from both of them, and it's always fun to see Spike getting hurt. Illyria put it best: "I like this one. He makes funny noises when I hit him."

Playing Crash Bandicoot. The attempted come-on to Fred. Lorne's Halloween party. The poetry-slam before the apocalypse.

Also, Spike's fight with puppet-Angel is the highlight of James Marsters' career.

Gotta be season 5 for me.
The one deciding reason: 'Fool for Love'. Spike's best episode by a long shot, and one of the best pieces of TV ever made IMO. 'Crush' is another great season 5 Spike ep - the scene between him and Dru in his crypt where she trys to convince him the chip means nothing is awesome. 'Intervention' as well when he takes that beating off Glory and still goes for the last word. Also in 'The Gift', his line "I know you'll never love me. I know I'm a monster" - that really tears at the heart.
Season 5 for sure!

Angel S5 was problematical for Spike...
how do you come back from redemption?
anything you do is gonna be pretty darn anti-climatical.

Joss said that he had coupled Angel with many little blondes,
but none was a better ingenue than Spike,
which was true: no one else brought out the energy and pettiness and frustration in Angel the way Spike did....
so I guess I'm saying:
Ats S5 was not a great season for Spike,
but Spike definitely managed to give Angel what he needed to get to the intense (and brilliant) final season it was.

Of course, for me, the biggest success of Angel's season 5 was Gunn getting his lawyer on, Fred turning into Illyria, and every single thing Wesley said and did until the day he died (he HAS to rise from the dead!)
but I guess that is really a discussion for the Angel section of the board....

Agreed. I rushed out to get it after I saw Buffy S7, just for more Spike! And while I loved the season, I felt that Spike was, I dunno, uh, just being used on Angel.
That's not exactly what I mean....It was like seeing an old lover you broke up with and feeling all weird (?)...I guess it diminished his sacrifice on Buffy for me a little....

because it does diminish the sacrifice...
there is no way around that:
someone dies to save the world...
and then is actually alive after,
it definitely undercuts that sacrifical aspect!

The only way they could handle it was with comedy,
and making Spike seem at loose ends,
and too embarassed about the whole thing to show up at Buffy's doorstep.
So I had no argument with the way the writers handled it,
but it was definitely a detour...
but detours can often take you places that are interesting,
and I did enjoy a lot of Spike's interactions on Angel
(particularly with Harmony, who I LOVED in S5!)
