Buffy-related question: Are the live-action Scooby Doo movies any good?

Can't speak for the second movie but no, the first isn't any good. It is however, an awful lot of fun.

What I mean is, it's not particularily well acted (except for Shaggy) or directed, the plot isn't great, the effects are so-so... There's nothing you can look at and say 'they did that well'. Despite this, it somehow manages to be really enjoyable.

If by "fun" you mean "oh my god, this is so dull, why won't it stop, end, end, end" then yes, I agree with you.

Still two out of three projects with Seth Green & SMG being home runs isn't a bad set of odds.

And the movies also got a nice payoff in Looney Tunes: Back in Action.

As someone who grew up watching the Original Scooby Doo cartoons, I was happy with the way the first one ended. I wouldn't be bored enough to turn it off if either of them came on, but I wouldn't seek them out per se, either.

Linda Cardellini was a good Velma, though, and I really enjoyed Matthew Lillard as Shaggy. I watched Without A Paddle solely because of him and Seth Green, and was glad I did.

So who is he?

I enjoyed the first Scooby-Doo, it was good for a laugh, but, it wasn't as close to the cartoon as I thought. I haven't seen Scooby-Doo 2, I've heard it was only so-so. Frankly though, I truely believe Sarah Michelle Gellar belongs on T.V., not on mindless television but on intelligent shows where she has time to create a character and make the character grow as the seasons progress. With movies(ALL MOVIES, not just ones Sarah has been in!) I feel like, we are introduced to pre-fab characters, that are born,they live, and then die after a short period. With intelligent television, we have more time to get to know the characters and I feel more of a conection with those characters by the time the show finishes. Back to the point, the live action Scoobies are good for a laugh, but not much more.

I really liked the first one. I thought it had some funny moments and it was cute. I wasn't expecting much from it and I was pleasantly surprised.

I remember absolutely nothing about the second one. That probably says something about it.

Didn't see the second one, but the first. . . didn't totally suck.

Of course, I only saw it from morbid curiosity, having been pretty thouroughly sickened of Scooby-Doo by Teletoon (Canada's "cartoon" network --45% Scooby-Doo, 45% Looney Toons/Bugs & Tweety Show, 10% pre-school "edutainment" ).
