I think one of the local places here has a catapillar roll too. I'm a bit scared of unagi (it's eel, yes?), so I haven't tried it yet. Maybe one of these days I'll get up the courage.

My best friend has a Japanese aunt who taught her how to make sushi, so she can make sushi. But she hasn't been able to afford to make any in recent past, so I haven't gotten the pleasure of homemade sushi.
Cook it myself? I do ok with eggs, spaghetti, and burgers, but I wouldn't really trust myself with anything more complicated. Especially not something with expensive ingredients.
Best friend is a kitchen witch; her cooking is literally magick. She can do anything.
I burn things a lot. Lots of fire in my blood and my magick. Hence the name and the picture.
That was a little disjointed. Sure you got the idea, though.

Fresh water eel, to be exact. It really is delicious; I can't recommend it enough. I was a little scared of it at first, too. Now I can't get enough. Ever.
Just don't have it with wasabi; there's a wonderful terriaki-like, sweet sauce that's supposed to go with it. It really makes it.
It isn't raw, if that's what you're worried about. They cook it and usually serve it warm.
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm......

Good question. Start with a mix would be my advice. California rolls, spider rolls, unagi, salmon, and maguro are all very good and mostly non-threatening (i.e. cooked! lol)
My dad started me on maguro without telling me what it was. I think I was about six at the time loved sushi ever since. I remember the restaurant owner was most shocked to see this little white girl gobbling up sushi. She even came over to talk to us.

A rose by any other name...

Yeah, I'm starting to get hungry too. Thats what happens when you start thinking about food, though.

Hmmm...with the flambe thing going on, maybe you should try teppanyaki instead.

I've found a place that sells the whole lot of stuff, and it's not that expensive. It's using the right rice, and that's pence.

Don't like california rolls myself - the mayo bothers me.

Smoked eel with a smear of horseradish mustard and very thin black bread...

This is going to turn into one of those threads.

Mayo? Never noticed mayo. Maybe the rolls differ a bit from place to place.

I don't think that I have ever had a california roll with mayo, either. One of my co-workers was talking about how his kids put mayo on shrimp sushi, though.

Hmm, wasn't intending to start this large of a threadjack. Whoops.

I've had some weird commercial sushi before. That's why I either make my own, or save up for the expensive real stuff...the little kirin and sake cart at Yo Sushi! was so cute. It used to rumble around, and occasionally stop and bleep 'life is just an endless circuit'. V Douglas Adams.
