Well, maybe so. I can't stand it; I can't taste anything but the burning sensation and I feel like my head is going to explode. That's not really my idea of good flavor or a good time.
I've heard, though, that it's kind of a test of manhood in certain cultures and households. It might be a total urban legend, but I've heard that in Spanish culture, when a young lady brings a young man home for dinner, they spice up his food to see how much he can take. If he coughs or complains, he's not worthy.

ITA with Trogman...the rush that comes with eating really spicy food is fabulous, with or without tears and red face- although I usually order something that keeps me at the "flushed and happy" level and not the "crying and red as a stop sign" level :P
Oh, and I love inari sushi and it is still hard for me to this day to see Inara and not get a craving!

I don't care about that rather silly male-stereotype stuff - a waste of energy to try and keep up with it. I swear, more wars (of all kinds) and pain has been caused by people trying to live up to stereotypes (male and female). What a waste. Why do people do that? Who the hell cares? Why do people try to fulfill society's concept of "self", instead of their own?

Morning all...ok now I am going to spend all day thinking of sushi. I have to go tutor and then hit the gym, but I'll be back in about 5 hours:)
SpaceAnJL- sigh the list is long and icky...no alcohol, no fish, no soft cheese, and no coffee( or any other caffine)

I used to love all sorts of spicy foods...until the age of my stomach caught up with the rest of me! 
I still love a good curry, and you can't pry me away from wasabi, but that's about it nowadays for spicy foods. I do miss them, though.

dancingneko: Keep in mind, pretty much all of the california rolls that I have had were in Wisconsin. Not exactly a place thats well known for its seafood. Heck, in Madison the lakes are so polluted from farm runoff that you're not supposed to eat the fish from them.
magdalena: I didn't catch the name when I tried it, but I did eat a dish that was mostly made of raw beef or mutton (loud restaurant, couldn't quite make the words out). It was raw meat mixed with a raw egg, some green onions and a couple of other things. I thought it was pretty good.
Other strange things that I have eaten recently: raw cow liver, cooked cow stomach, intestine and heart, fish liver (not sure if it was cooked or not), some sort of snail (i'll put a picture below) and whole fish (pretty small but you just pick it up and eat it; head, bones, fins, guts and all). The only thing I wasn't wild about was the snail and thats because I swear it was half liver and I don't particularly care for the texture of cooked liver.

TrogMan, I agree. Living up to stereotypes is dumb. There are a few I happen to fit; mostly though, not so much. []

Hi again - just checking in before going to bed...
Trogman - I love spicy food BUT as a girl I think it's not so attractive to be turning bright red and perspiring when in the company of others - especially if it's a date - so I usually limit myself to mild or medium when out and many of the people I cook for from time to time don't share my love of hot food!
Hey Goat - that's a bit like me - I couldn't really catch the name of what I ate either but it was yummy!
Gorgeous PR - if I start on stereo types I will never get to bed and I have to start work in a few hours!! suffice it to say that I agree! I don't find 'stereotypical' folk attractive - but they are out there too...again...
MsG - If my SO was truely 'the one' I would work hard to see that it did work out... I have friends in the army over here (Oz) and it's a bit of a rollercoaster for their families at times. Having said that when I was in my 20s I let the love of my life go to the US with no strings attached and since I had a ticket for the UK I thought we'd leave it to fate to see if we ended up together again... very healthy and sane but I often wonder what might have happened if I'd kept track and we'd been more flexible and communicative...

Here's my joy today...my friend with benifits found out his mother had a huge brain tumor yesterday! So of course he came and stayed with me last night. How am I supposed to comfort him? I love him to death as one of best friends but I don't deal well with emotions! Well in general I don't feel much of anything but dead inside. I want to be here for him but I don't know if I can.
