Yup, I replied straight back to the email address you gave. I'm guessing it didn't make it then? I'll try it through the fff.net one. And just found your myspace profile: never realised you were a Stephen Fry fan - such good taste.

Okey dokey, I'm presuming you're not already involved with a costume shop in a theatricl group at this point.
Google for Theatrical Supplies
Try a university drama department or local theater group.
Check the yellow pages (or local equivalent) for Theater supply company.
Darned if I can remember where we used to get our shoe stuff.
I did have to stick a pirate-y bit onto a pair of existing boots one time and then dye them black. We used acetone (to clean it afore) and barging cement, then dyed the whole shebang. They looked pretty good. Warning: all very smelly fumey stuff that will give you a massive headache and make you sick if you do not use it in a well ventilated area.
You can try Amazon Vinegar and Pickling works (out of Davenport Iowa)They've got an entire small catalog dedicated to shoes.

Q&consult phone: 1(319) 322-4138

Davenport, IA 52803-3760
(I know we used them in the costume dept., that's where I heard of them first)

or Gohn Bros.(an Amish supply company)
Box 1110
Middlebury, Indiana 46540-1110
tel: 1(574) 825-2400
toll free: 1-800-595-0031
They've been in business for over 100 years.
They've got suspender parts and more. (Hatmaking stuff too.)
If you're outside the US/Canada I have no idea what to tell you. Most of the above suggestions should still hold.
If you're in LA just spit, you should be able to hit someone who could make a better suggestion.

If all else fails just wander around a fairly good sized fabric store until you see something that might work. Don't be afraid to ask the clerks for help, they love interesting projects and can get very creative. Bring pictures of what you're trying to accomplish if you can.

StinkingRose, thank you!
I am actually semi-associated with the costume department of the university I graduated from, and these hooks came from a friend who works at a large theatre south of me. They don't remember where they got them, either.
I will try your suggestions. I have tried as many search engines as possible today (slow day at work) and have not had much luck. Those phone numbers and contact info will come in handy!

Again, thank you very much!

why thank you!

I shall go and trawl through all of my junkmail folders - i'm on the beta version of live mail - lately its been sticking all the viagra ads in my inbox and blanking out my past time newsletter. So it figures that mail from my contacts has gone awry.

If i can't find it i'll get back to you. Cheers sweet.

Yes, Steven Fry, a marvellous man. Were he not twice my age and gay i'd be making a serious effort to marry him, to spend the rest of my life talking to him would just be incredible.

Alas, there is the gay issue. and the fact that a serious attempt to get to know him better would only reslut in tears and a restraining order.

But he'd better buck his ideas up. he has a serious contender for his hero status - a recent addition, but the african tribe befriending, cow jumping smily man of no fear Bruce Parry is shortly to feature on the myspace page. Just as soon as i find the picture of him pre cow jumping - decorated with tree bark and cow dung, sun burnt nervous and butt naked (literally - did you know it was possible to have a buttock tatooed?) and having the time of his bloody life.
What a hero.

Now, This one had to be bought out and shown to the world.
Everybody - say thank you Arcadia.

It is, my dear, possible to have *anything* tatooed. You just have to find an artist willing to do the job.
If it's skin you can ink it.
Mind you some bits are more painful and hard to reach than others...
Okay, we can end that thread before it begins.
Look! A llama!

thank you Arcadia!

Now, I'm going to secretly hope you don't win the first one (though it is lovely) and get the black one instead, because I really do like it better.

Though, either one is just gorgeous gorgeous and we are going to look faboo.

I suppose being all muscle and fat and not at all close to bone, it would hurt a lot less and there fore be the most sensible place to stick needles in.

but yes, StR, you are right... oh! Llamas!
