Why does everyone dislike season 5?

So I was looking at another thread in which people were ranking the seasons of buffy and I noticed season 5 toward the bottom alot, I was just wondering what people had against that season, because it's my favorite season. I love the emotional roller coaster ride that it takes you on.

I know a lot of people hated Dawn, which I don't, she's one of my favorite characters, but anyway is that what people have against season 5 is Dawn's appearance? Just curious, I know everyone is entitled to their own opinions.

"Haha, mine is an evil laugh."

5 is my second-favorite, only behind 3. I love Big Bad's who make you laugh, and nobody did that better than the Mayor and Glory. (I'll also own up to being a Dawn fan.)

There's a ton of great episodes that year: "The Replacement", "Fool for Love", "Triangle", "Checkpoint", "Crush", "The Body", "Intervention", and "The Gift", among others...

It's not something I get either. Season five is my second favourite, after season three. And it's a really, really close call between them.

I can kind of get why some people wouldn't like Glory, although personally I loved her and thought she made for a brilliant villain, but not liking Dawn? That's something I'll never understand. I loved Dawn all through the final three seasons, and she even ended up taking Willow's place as my favourite character! I still hope to write fanfic about what she got up to post-Chosen one fine day.

And as for not liking season five ... Fool for Love! The Body! Forever! And the greatest stunt Joss ever pulled on the fans ... ever. All the better for introducing a wonderful character to the show, who really forced Buffy into the adult world when she did not want to go there. Not to mention all the other little gems the season had to offer like insane troll logic and the Xander/Anya ship and the magic box complete with Giles in a wizard hat and cloak and Tara's smile at the end of family that makes me break into a happy grin every time. I love season five. I always will.

EDITED having read Groo's post. My Goddess Groo - please tell me you're a single man!

I think it had its moments but I preferred Dawn in Seasons 6 and 7 so season 5 didn't really bring us anything.

By this I mean... I automatically assign Spike and Angel to Season 2. Genius!

Faith to season 3. Genius!

Season 4 was all about the initiative which I didn't enjoy but I refuse to write off the season as a loss simply because of 'Hush' with the brilliantly creepy Gentlemen.

I hated Riley with a vengeance and frankly I think he has all the charm and charisma of a goat.

To sum up, Season 5... Dawn whined a lot, Glory was not nearly as menacing as the mayor although she was supposed to be more powerful, and Riley was still there, moping and irritating as ever.

I think that when it attempted to be dark it was later over shadowed by the dark season (6) and it just wasn't as enjoyable to watch as a whole. (I agree that certain episodes were excellent).

My subconscious has some issues...
Dark Angel, Firefly, Buffy, Angel, Enterprise, Farscape... anything else you'd like to cancel?

Fool For Love is my favourite ep behind Chosen.
S5 is cool, but Glory is a limp God. They shoulda called her a Queen Demon, or something (But that wouldn't have sounded as scary).
It's a GOOD season, though.

Well, to be fair she was trapped in a human body and had a LOT less power than she'd had in her own dimension. Which was kinda nessa. Otherwise that would have been one short season.

Season 5 is my absolute fave and the first one I watched. I was hooked.

Sex and violence on the big screen, where it belongs.

I like season 5 as well, but probably what most don't like about it is not just Dawn, but that it seemed the show was taking a backwards journey, putting it back into the high school venue which they thought it had outgrown.

I ranked Season 5 very low...
and not because I 'hate' Dawn, which I don't (she is annoying, but she makes an interesting burden for Buffy to bear).

no, I hated Glorificus: I thought she was annoying, every scene with her in it is something that makes me want to fastforward...
I know a lot of people enjoyed her, but I didn't get it, IMO she wasn't scary or funny or interesting in anyway...just irritating.
