Shiny is a slang for cool and gorram is a smooshing together of God Damn, don't know where the r's came from, but that's what it says in all the text I can find for the lingo.

Yeah, and "no ruttin' way." I used to think these were more mandarin cuss words, kinda anglicized, but I dunno. It's clever to use these words to substitute those little words you cant say on tv, but they can be confusing. I especially like when upright, mr.proper simon says them. "This is paranoid schizophrenia captain, hand-crafted by government scientists who thought my sisters brain was a rutting playground..."

Most of the words are easy enough to figure out. Some of them are even in the dictionary in a related form.

Rut: 1 : an annually recurrent state of sexual excitement in the male deer; broadly : sexual excitement in a mammal (as estrus in the female) especially when periodic

In slang terms, f*cking.

Anyone else hear "Ash" from the Evil Dead Trilogy in their heads saying "Shiny"?

I'm not sure about anglicized mandarin, but I tend to use "Ahh-Shh" from all of my Korean co-workers, who were nicely saying "Ah! Shit!!"

LOTV: Ima-who-whata-whoichy-whoda-whazza--huh?

And if anyone is a fray fan here you should have noticed that joss used the word rutting in the world of fray, long before firefly came about, still dont know if he noodled up the word or its from some other language.....

hmmm... if that was true then 'silver-hand'
would mean 'annoying interference'
