Causal,
It wouldn't have been a referendum on dubya except Zero chose to lead off with this:

Well, you've got me there. But I'm still glad he's dead.

Now a personal note: Yesterday was a great day for America when we bombed and killed an important Al Queda leader. It was a bittersweet victory for us locally as I have just learned that yesterday a City police officer called to active service in Iraq was killed in action. He was a good man, devoted husband and father, and a proud public servant. He believed in the mission and was proud to be called. He will be missed. I'm closing my part in this discussion out of respect for him. I will observe silence on this board until after the funeral. I want to thank those of you of all sides who engage in this spirited debate. I think the honost dialogue of those who choose to disagree is a testiment to the system our soldiers are dying to serve.- H
Sorry for your loss, Hero. Thanks to and prayers for your friend.-Geezer

I thought 'creepy' too, and also opportunistic. This is not the first time he's mentioned this. The last time I recall he made some insinuating comment about the widow.
Nearly everything I know I learned by the grace of others.

He apparently knew him well enough to know that he was "...a good man, devoted husband and father, and a proud public servant. He believed in the mission and was proud to be called". No. I don't consider this creepy. I consider it... respectful. Although I never knew this man personally, I have known others like him, and also respect him and his kind.

You'd rather see freedom's defeat?

first off, im glad Zarqawi was taken down, regardless of my opinion on the war; he was a cold blooded killer. but beside that, there are a few points id like to toss into the mix:
is it possible to fight a literal war on ideals? is that not what we're doing with this "war on terror"? that seems to me to be the undermining factor of the entire operation in the middle east. the world media should have exposed the inherint fallacys of the "terrorists" belief system, which supports murder, and taken a more missionary type approach to radical islam, rather than a military response. given the influence the world media has when it throws the heat on a situation, this could have been likely. im not saying that this solution is always sufficient, but these people needed change from the inside out, not from the outside in. i dont see how we'll ever stamp out radical fundementalism, or whatever you wanna call it..without introducing alternative doctrines. IMO, these people needed Jesus
if you look at the KKK for example, these were not real christians, these were disinfranchised, ignorant people who were taken ahold of by interests with divisive motives. is there a difference between them and these muslim "terrorists"? i dont believe so, except our solution to the klan was not to attack them, but rather to expose the flaws in their idealogy, and to expose the motives behind their idealogy.
only this was not the intention of the west in all of this. i think we'd find that black ops elements within our own government have been responsible in planting the seeds neccessary for politically motivated adversaries in the past, such as the mujahadeen..so what is to stop them from doing so now?
but i digress...
my question is, what explanation do you establishment mouth pieces give for the Gulf war, and the Iraq war, when you take into considerations that it was our own CIA that put Saddam in power to begin with!?
" In the quotations collected below, the name of the leader who was assassinated is spelled variously as Qasim, Qassim and Kassem. But, however you spell his name, when he took power in a popularly-backed coup in 1958, he certainly got recognized in Washington. He carried out such anti-American and anti-corporatist policies as starting the process of nationalizing foreign oil companies in Iraq, withdrawing Iraq from the US-initiated right-wing Baghdad Pact (which included another military-run, US-puppet state, i.e., Pakistan) and decriminalizing the Iraqi Communist Party. Despite these actions, and more likely because of them, he was Iraq's most popular leader. He had to go!
In 1959, there was a failed assassination attempt on Qasim. The failed assassin was none other than a young Saddam Hussein. In 1963, a CIA-organized coup did successfully assassinate Qasim and Saddam's Ba'ath Party came to power for the first time. Saddam returned from exile in Egypt and took up the key post as head of Iraq's secret service. The CIA then provided the new pliant, Iraqi regime with the names of thousands of communists, and other leftist activists and organizers. Thousands of these supporters of Qasim and his policies were soon dead in a rampage of mass murder carried out by the CIA's close friends in Iraq.
Iraq is once again a target of US regime change. Despite that, precious little is being said by the corporate media about how the CIA aided and abetted political assassination, regime change and mass murder, all in the name of putting Saddam's Ba'ath power into power for the first time in Iraq. "

it seems the true nature of the war in Iraq is yet another attempt of the western globalists, the bilderbergs, at bringing the middle east under the control of a government system which they are capable of manipulating. theyve proven that the most highly touted democracy in the world(US) can be brought under the coercion of the elite, and that agenda is expanding globally. check out the other threads where i brought up the Bilderbergs, its the real deal.

Hero's friend died, my father and several relatives spent years fighting in WWII, my brother-in-law and many of my friends died in Vietnam, and I spent a year there...just so you could have the right to be sarcastic without the secret police taking you off to a cell and putting a bullet in your head. You're welcome.
Freedom isn't free. Too bad you don't realize that fact. But that's your right too. Consider how many people died for your right to be cutesy.

It's the same crazed argument as Hero's; if not for our military adventurism in Iraq, Osama would be President. There may very well be necessary wars, but this debacle in Iraq is not one of 'em! Destroying Iraq is not guaranteeing anyone's right to be sarcastic but yours.

Hey, hey, hey, don't be mean. We don't have to be mean, because, remember, no matter where you go, there you are.
