I think the issue with yesterday is that Nostradamus predicted that it was 06/06/2006 that the antichrist would be reborn.
So being non-christian, i'm not too worried. But we were saying the other day, whats to betting the NSA or whoever are making notes and planning to keep tabs on all the babies born yesterday? Especially the ones born at 6 minutes past 6 in the morning?
We were also saying that were we pregnant and expecting that day we'd just be sat very still with out legs tightly crossed until the stroke of midnight had passed. Ain't no baby of mine growning up to be no antichrist! Talk about the blacksheep of the family.

I just have this funny image of the parents of the anti-christ trying to De-demonize their child. You know, grounding him for sacrificing goats or trying to get the mark of the beast surgically removed. Being a Christian, I can laugh at all this even more, because I know that's not how things are gonna work.

Serenity, I had heard that the Irish language was dying, but actually being there set me at ease. There is at least one tv station that broadcasts all their programs in that language, and you can hear it on the streets every now and then. If you have a chance to talk to DeskTopHippie, ask her about it...apparently, it is taught in school as a mandatory class.
Guam? You were born in Guam?!? How cool is that! How long did you stay there?

I was in Guam for 6 years.
Ireland has really made some steps to save Gaelic. Guam has lobbied unsuccesfully for legistion through the US for funding to save Chammoro.(one of the downsides of being a territory.) When I was there, it was taught in schools, too. I think it still is. I took a year and a half of it.
I can still say Hafa adai and Asta agupa and si yu'use ma'ase and a few phrases. It's weird, because when I hear it, it sounds like I should know what they're saying, but I don't. Kinda frustrating.

It looks like a cross between Spanish and an Indian dialect (what, in Guam, ya think? [sarcasm towards myself]). Are there many native speakers left? I think that was the problem with Gaelic. They re-wrote most of, if not all of, the language in 1948, I think...I'm a bit rusty on my Irish language history (for shame!). I am glad it is still a viable language, though.

It is sort of a cross between Spanish and asian languages, mostly Filipino. At least in the basics. Like in counting. In Chamorro, you count to 10 like this: uno, dos, tres, kuatro, sinko, sais, siette, ocho, nuebi, dies.
Pronounced almost exactly like Spanish.
There's also another number system that no one really uses anymore that's more like filipino, but I don't know it. Except one is Hacha.
Oh yeah, and the problem is, now that it's an american territory, everyone just speaks english mostly, so it's dying out. Such a shame.
See, Tristan, what happens when you get me talking about languages? I don't shut up. *sigh*.

Yes, it does sound like Spanish when read out loud...co-workers are wondering what I am doing 
I was under the impression that Filipino was a version of Spanish that "evolved" in the same way the Spanish spoken in Mexico has done; through absorbing the native tongue. I have never actually heard it spoken.
I, too, am in love with languages...I had been talking to Mattie in French, but did not think it was appropriate to clutter up this thread with French. I mentioned starting another thread for language not of the 'verse...I think I will do that. I'll be back with a link soon.

Ahh, I see. I thought it would be a fantastic terrorist attack day when the thought first crossed my mind-- but hey, they don't need any special date to blow up people on the subway (unless I'm missing something).
