My husband reads David Weber. Also, the "Bolo" series of books. He's much more sci-fi than I am. I prefer fantasy, i.e. Laurell K. Hamilton's "Anita Blake, Vampire Executioner" series and JD Robb's "In Death" series (she has a really interesting take on what the world would be like in the future). As far as TV shows, we like Enterprise, SG-1 & Angel, in addition to a lot of mainstream shows (CSI, West Wing, etc.).

Does anyone remember the mini-series "V" that ran during the 80's? Man, was I hooked on it! LOL.

Yeahehe, "V", I remember that back in the day, I was pretty keen on it too at the time. Its funny though, I saw it again a year or so ago and it was nowhere near as good as I remember. One thing though, I reckon Firefly WILL be ageless, it will still be excellent in 20 yrs or so.

TV sci-fi shows I like are:

Stargate (good stories, great special effects, a hot babe and Mcguyver...can't go wrong )

Star Trek (they don't have any of the cool stuff from TNG but I still like it)

Tremors (loved the original movie and the series has good stories)

Hmmm, that's about it. We need more (new) sci-fi on tv.

/ Stargate SG-1: I catch the affiliate airing of this (one season behind) since I'm unable to catch the Friday night eps on Sci-Fi channel.
/ Smallville: it got really interesting in the last season when they had less of the "monster of the week" episodes and focused more on Lex Luthor's eventual decent into evil
/ Enterprise: it improved just a tad bit when it started the whole Xindi story arc and now I want to see where the show will go
/ Angel: got hooked on it during its third season, I too wonder how the W&H aspect of its fifth season will play out
/ South Park: I still get a kick out of their twisted humor at current events; the latest being the ep where the kids are in Canada and meet up with Saddam (complete with his new "bum" look) aired just 4 days after it was on the news!
/ Carnivale: from day one this show has just amazed me. It is so dark and filled with imagery that I usually re-watch it to pick up on the minute details. I am eagerly awaiting its second season sometime in aught-four

for the xindi storyline on enterprise: check out the second prequel movie for star wars and compare the similarities to what's currently happening on enterprise. what a rip-off trek series have become! dumb dialogue, women in cat-suits, and wimpy male leads! counting the hours 'till they cancel this ill-conceived show!

Ok, call me slow, but what am I missing here?

Star Trek- xindi attack Earth because they think sometime in the future humans destroy their race.

Star Wars second prequel movie, Clone Wars- old geezer tricks everyone into big war so he can obtain absolute control.

One episode of Stargate did make me say WTF though. They fly a fighter to destroy a new weapon on a spaceship by blowing up it's exhaust vent. I was just waiting for O'neal to joke about The Force being with him.

Currently, Carnivale and Angel.

Shows that live on in DVD land... Buffy, The X-Files, Hercules, Xena and Twin Peaks. Out of all of them, only X-Files qualifies as true Sci-Fi.

But Firefly is the best of them all!

All the sci-fi I like is old, Firefly has been the only thing this century I've really gotten into. Seems to me the the 90's was something of a golden age of Sci-fi. There always seemed to be something cool coming out,this centuy with the exception of Firefly not so much.

What I've got on DVD and video includes Babylon 5, Farscape, DS9, Voyager, Red Dwarf, original Trek, Doctor Who, Space 1999, Battlestar Galactica (1978 only thank you) The Prisioner, X-Files, Buck Rogers(1980's version total cheese but strangely enjoyable in an embaracing Velvetta sort of way) and that about covers it. I enjoy other stuff as well but that's the only stuff I bothered to buy pre-recorded. I got Twin Peaks as well but it's a bit of a strech to call it Sci-Fi.

The only thing still on the air I'm likely to get into is Jeriamiah,(a heinous misspelling? I don't know) I've never seen it but I'm a big JMS fan and it's comming to DVD this week.And in the tradition of everything cool getting cancelled this century it's likely to be cancelled soon as well from what I here.

Well there you have it.

Currently, the only thing on air that I watch in the Sci-Fi genre is Stargate SG-1

But in the past, and on DVD, I still watch

Andromeda
Farscape
Star Trek (TOS-TNG-DS9-VOY)
Star Wars
Space Rangers
Battlestar Galactica
UFO
Babylon 5

I think there's more, but that's all I can think of right at the moment...
