I'm listening to BBC radio 4 (yes I proudly love it and yet am not over 60) and they just bloody described Serenity as 'that Buffy spin-off'. Grrr. Just thought I'd share my anger.

I actually have never seen Buffy, and I kinda do now that I know it's a Whedon.

They were talking about it as one of the first examples of a 12A rated film- ie that under 12s can attend if accompanied by an adult. It's normally a compromise for films who desperately want to be a 12 to rake in the younger audiences.

We know how Joss is always pushing boundries, and there are some quite scary bits. I think he did well to get it passed as a 12A.

But they called it a spinoff?!?!
That implies that it's a Buffy movie! A movie that's a spinoff of a series is usually a movie of the series! And... and... and... having the same creator doesn't mean spinoff! Angel is a Buffy spinoff! I... I... I...

exactly. Spin-off really misleads the public, and how many people now might not go and see the film thinking 'ooh vampire slaying's not my thing' and thus miss out on the joy that is Serenity? Really bad publicity. I mean I love Buffy, but I think it would probably put a lot of radio 4 people off even considering the film now.

Hmmm not surprising. Have you noticed how there are some serious errors creeping into the bbc of late. They have half researched news stories, shoddy headlines and their once definitive take on the English language has all but gone to pot!
The amount of newsreaders who say "was" instead of "were" is unbelievable!

I remember once sitting with my dad as he watched the weakest link and one question was:

"Who directed the Nightmare Before Christmas?"

and as nobody guessed the right answer, Anne Robinson goes on to say:

"It was Tim Burton"!?

I couldn't believe it! I just happened upon this show but, it had me wondering how many other questions they incorrectly quiz people on!

So hearing them call Serenity a spin-off isn't surprising as obviously nobody over there checks their facts anymore.

Shamefull!

Heh. I got upset about that very same question on the Weakest Link.

It's amazing though how people trust everything they read in the newspaper except for the bits about stuff they know about when they seem to be continually making mistakes.
