Zero,

Thats understandable. Its a common misconception. It comes from the liberal notion that the "same rights as everyone else" means having rights superior to others in order to artificially correct real or perceived injustice.
Are you having a happy friday alone at home by yourself? This made even less sense than normal. At least, as normal as you get.

Nearly everything I know I learned by the grace of others.

H

i could be missing out on things so could you give some examples of some rights that are being asked for that are superior to other's? i don't see how the right to marry (and to get the benefits that come along with marriage) is asking for superior rights so i must be missing something.

I don't consider a fetus to be a human being. Why would you?

??? Surely you can understand why many people consider fetuses to be human beings? You must be baiting me but I can't for the life of me figure out what clever argument you have up your sleeve, now that you've lured me out.

Well, meanwhile, could you explain to me at what point exactly we achieve 'human being' status?

The case can also be made that a fetus is merely a parasite, despite human qualities.

Not baiting, just an observation.

Did they ever ask for special consideration? All I heard them ask for was the ability to legally marry like any heterosexual couple. Doesn't sound too extreme, does it?

Saddam was the lesser evil in a world dominated by the ideological struggle against communism and the more recent conflict against the Islamafascists in Iran.

Very true. Politics makes strange bedfellows.

After 9/11 our policy changed to one in which we no longer allow these people to sit back and poke us with sticks year after year...we hit back.

The only poking I saw from Iraq was Saddam's birthday where he mocked us. There has been no reliable evidence that Saddam had anything to do with the terrorists. That intel was brought to you by the same folks who brought us the WMD fiasco...

Reagan was blasted because he wanted to trade with South Africa, but his plan was to use trade as the means of moving them in the direction we want them to go. Such is the case with Vietnam. In China's case we have trade with them because for several decades we courted them as a possible ally against the Soviet Union. When the Soviets fell we continued to encourage reform. They have economically reformed, but politically they are mired in 20th Century thinking. We continue to push reform and cannot ourselves afford to be isolated from such a large potential market. We nust be involved in China's future path or else we risk them courting their allies and partners with those who are our more aggressive enemies...also an isolated China might become desperate and a desperate near superpower is very dangerous. Such dangers led to Japan's attack on the US in WW2, and thats also why we sold low priced grain to the starving Soviets, even at the height of the cold war.

You are correct in your analysis, but how does that explain not trading with Cuba?

Children need all the facts...including adstenance.

Kids do need to know about abstinence, but we all know that some aren't going to listen. So why take their protection away because its "morally wrong" to the religious right?

Creationism should be taught in schools alongside other theories.

This is what many in the Right are uncomprehending on: Creationism isn't a theory! By definition, a scientific theory is a hypothesis that has been rigorously tested, and that there is a hell of a lot of evidence for. Creationism does not meet that standard because it is just a guess with ZERO evidence. THAT is why it doesn't belong in the classroom any more than the belief that Overlord Xenu dumped billions of frozen aliens into Earth's volcanoes, creating life (for those of you who dont know, that is Scientology)

Its a moral failing and a crime for everyone and its an illness whose victims need prayer for recovery.

If doing drugs is a moral failing, then so is watching Firefly, or any show for that matter, or going to the movies, or doing anything to distract yourself from the depressing monotony of life.

You're welcome on my boat. God ain't.

Err, I wasn't meaning the type of baiting that you do to bears, more baiting a trap and luring someone into it. Observe all you like

I don't like the word 'merely' in there. Otherwise your sentence is fine. Being a parasite and a human being are not mutually exclusive though. You can argue the same (being a parasite) for any dependent child, from a suckling baby to a sponging teenager.

Okay... you still got to answer my question though.

They have DNA that shows they are human (I think - unless 'Heart of Gold' has lied to me...), and they are alive, so they are in a state of 'being'. Hence 'human being'.

And also I can't think of a way for you to neatly disqualify them... but that's where your trap comes into play...

you know I don't know at what point we become human beings either, but it has been reported by some people that there soul(pure consiousness) has hovered over or watched the mother right up until it was time to be born before they entered into physical existence. I'm only relaying what I've read and heard, (and although I don't remember at what point I entered into my mom's womb I have experienced being out of body on one occassion so I am personally familar with being in a state of pure consiousness) but if its true, then the fetus isn't alive, so if its true that most souls don't enter the womb until lets say the last month or two of preganancy or maybe the majority of souls wait right up until its time to be born before they entered into physical existence, then in the early stages of preganancy when most people abort, they wouldn't be killing a human being.

if it takes a soul to animate a human body, then the fetus or even the baby wouldn't be human until the soul entered into it.

just some food for thought
