It's alright. I daresay we've hijacked this thread. I think that's the first time I've ever done that. My friend is going to go to grad school for something related to art . . or art history . . or maybe it's photography. I can't remember, but she's terrified of finding funding for it.

State budgets are available online. It's not a secret how much the professors make. The science professors make a lot, humanities professors don't, and most have book deals.

You're not going to win this argument with me. I'll concede that maybe UT is different, but I'll also say the UT probably isn't that great of a school.
A decent public institution will always have PhDs teaching courses and TAs/grad students teaching lab & discussion. A small private school will have the PhD teaching the class and they don't have discussions because there is only 10 people in each class. Grad students will still lead lab.

My friends are professors at UT. One was paid $6,000/year plus "free tuition", then UT refused to accept his doctoral thesis. What is the different (and more correct) definition of college? I always assumed college and university were mostly interchangeable.

College used to be a subject-focused study (ie College of Arts, etc), whereas a University is a collection of colleges. I may be completely off on this, but I believe that is a close answer.
