Firefly was (NO, IS Goram it) a Sci-Fi show by Joss Whedon (who, since you are posting the Buffyverse forum, you are aware of) that Fox in all their wisdom decicded to cancel.
Look around in the forums and on the site you will likely get a good idea of what the show was like, and you can get all the episodes on DVD now too (Wha Hoo!) So if you are a fan of Buffy/Angel, Check it out. This show was better, or at least had the potential to be, and I am a big fan of both other shows.

Firefly is the type of ship Serenity is. It also is the best gorram show in the 'verse, that was created by Joss Whedon.

One part Star Wars, one part Magnificent 7 (the TV show, not the movie), add mudder's milk and set the blender on puree. Add a healthy helping of the kind of plot twists and culdusacs that could only come from the mind of Joss Whedon, and that, in a nutshell, is Firefly.
Gene Roddenberry tried to sell Star Trek by calling it a space-going Western. He was lying - this is the real deal.

FIREFLY is bar-none the best scifi tv show to come to the airwaves since Capt. Kirk was whooping Klingon ass in the original Trek series. if you are seriously into the scifi genre or just like some good old-fashioned no nonsense action and adventure, FIREFLY is right up your alley! buy or rent the complete series (or borrow it from another browncoat), you will not be dissappointed. i've watched all the eps, and the show has something for a fan of most every genre! from westerns to romance, scifi to horror, this show is like a mega dose of pure entertainment!!!
