You'll like her even more on her own show...
she didn't suffer much when she visited Angel because he was suffering...
but Joss would throw one situation after another at his hero, and Buffy really does reflect the whole concept of the Hero's Journey...
she is made miserable in every way the writer's could imagine... In fact, it would be fun to write an essay about what was being done to destroy our super hero in each season.
(I love these shows!)

Okay, but season one of Angel happens along side of season four of Buffy, 2 and 5, 3 and six, and so on.
It would make the most chronological sense if you watched 'em side by side like that.
