Well, that depends alot on what you dont like about the show. But yes, it gets better.
Season five is the best according to me, but most think 1 and 2 are better. So, what dont you like with it?

yes, you get to the cross-over episodes, which kick ass...
and soon Wesley (have you seen Buffy?) shows up, and he is a riot.

I don't think the show is ever as good as Buffy, which isn't as good as Firefly (IMO), but actually I like Angel's season 5 enough to own it (I own all the Buffys).

It gets much darker over time. But it still retains some of its "cheesyness" recommend you dont give up and try to hang in for a bit longer.

It's okay little River I never really go into Angel either. It can be a lot of fun but the begining doesn't pack the punch of Buffy by a long shot. I guess I always just wanted Buffy 2 the Angel story but it was completely different. Fred is a bright shiny spot though. You'll meet her later.

Oh, you havent seen Buffy. Well that kinda ruins alot since only Doyle in the beginning isnt a buffy character. Angel, Cordy, Spike, they are all from buffy. Personally I like Angel better then Buffy, so I cant really give you the tip to buy them all since you have a problem with Angel, but try to catch a rerun or two if you can.
