I guess it's possible for Bush to fall a little further, but he probably won't since he's busy shoring up his base. He won't rise much either, but I think his goal is to get back to about 40% so he won't drag his party to far down in the mid terms.
To Dayve, Kinky Friedman is interesting, but he can't beat Perry. He can only siphon enough votes away from Chris Bell to reelect Perry. With Ms Strayhorn (a Republican running for Governor as an independent, for those outside of Texas) in the race there is a chance that Bell can defeat Perry, but not if Democrats vote for Kinky in large numbers. Independents always hurt the major party candidate they are closest to idea logically. Ralph Nader in the 2000 Presidential race is the best example of that.

That would be me. I remember thinking what a chicken he was for flying around on Air Force One far longer than he needed to. Seeing his deer caught in the headlights look in the Florida classroom after his aide informed him of the attack was priceless. That's Bush in a nutshell, dumb and gutless.

Same here. I actually disliked him more than I usually do during that time for two reasons:
i) I knew people would rally behind him and his popularity would shoot up, which was an undeserved blessing for him;
ii) I guess I can understand why people would support their leader in such a time, but somehow, deep down, I just knew his administration would misuse that trust and goodwill - and it did.
Other people can occasionally be useful, especially as minions. I want lots of minions.
