Chris.. I am working hard not to read the spoilers in this thread.. as I just finally got my first Buffy disc... and wow.

I was not expecting to like it.. I LOVE Firefly... vampires.. not so much.

I LOVE THIS SHOW!

OMG, Joss is amazing.. and these aren't even the best eps I know.

So my further addiction to Joss the Boss continues.... I'll keep you posted. *sigh*

that is the thing: Joss is a GREAT writer,
and Buffy is not about Vampires
(even when they become central characters)
it is all metaphor and teen-aged angst
and all good stuff that is irresistable!
And it keeps getting better and better!!

Enjoy the trip Mal.

and Chrisisall: if you want Cordy's story then you have to get Angel's S1 (from netflix, I'm ot saying you have to buy it) and watch from the beginning and follow Cordy's 'arc'
(such as it is)

well she continues to get worse hair in S3 and S4
but that isn't really the arc I meant...

so you really do need to see S3 & 4
(three is really very good, and what Wesley goes through will blow your mind!)

it is really kind of a pity to jump into S5
without really knowing the back story....

(embers worries that Chrisisall isn't appreciating all the nuances...)

well you will get to see Connor in S5...
(you'll also get to see someone else who I hesitate to mention because of BIG SPOILERS)
but without the back story, I'm not sure the full impact and enjoy can be there....

but it isn't for me to say. I mean, I get it:
there are no real 'must see' episodes
(nothing to rival Hush, Restless, The Body, Once More With Feeling, etc)
and I haven't felt any desire to own Angel's early seasons
but never seeing them, that isn't...

however, never mind: enjoy S5!
When you run out of new stuff, maybe you'll go ahead and check out the filler episodes on netflix
because a lot of the Connor (and other angst)
fuels Angel's feelings of self loathing
(or just emptiness)
in Season 5

Unfortunately (for me, given what it probably says about my mental state) season 6 is one of my favourites, and I actually regret that the 'happy end' of the season (for Buffy) was bought a little cheaply, in my view.

Still, the answer to your questions seems to be fairly obvious - hang out in (virtual and actual) places where you can spend a lot of time discussing Buffy and other aspects of the Whedonverse... oh, wait, we're already doing that...
