For some reason, I got to thinking today about all the debating that we do in the RWED, and had a strange thought. Most of the political/religious arguing I do with my local people is over drinks and dinner. Which got me to thinking - If you could pick oh, say 5 RWED people to have a dinner conversation with, who would you pick, and perhaps why?

Don't you ever wonder if the impression you get of someone online is how they are in person? Or if the nuances of someone's arguing skills are better in a more personal setting (for example, I've heard Bush in person is far more persuasive and charming than he is as a public speaker)?

If I had to take my 5 or so, I think I'd go like this:

-Rue and SignyM, who I tend to agree with on most issues; I'd be curious to see what they are like in person
-Citizen, for sure, more or less the same reason, and we need a Brit at the table
-Hero and Finn, so that we can have some debate. Some of my arguments with Hero have been legendary; same goes with Finn

My short list of alts would probably be HKCav, AURaptor, and SergeantX.

Who would you bring to your table? Lurkers, I know some of you out there don't post a lot, but if you read a lot of these you must have an opinion. Post it.

The only person I'm sure about is who would be on TOP of my list.

PirateNews.

I've got to know what he's like in person. I have to know whether he would sit next to me at TGIF's and tell me about the German-Jew-Queen of England and her plot to overthrow the US.

I agree. PirateNews, but just so I can have him arrested on bogus charges (I'm sure there are real charges out there...but I'd make some up just for him and just this one time.)

So lets do it, I know a good place for Mexican (you gets lots of it and it don't cost much...how's that for a ironic?)

Couldn't narrow it down to just 5, so here's 7:

Sevenpercent (gotta reciprocate the honor )
Rue
Signym
Finn
Chrisisall
Hero

and for entertainment:
PirateNews (I was thinking stand up, he'd get a soap box, we'd have a free comedy routine).

His rantings have given me this great idea for a good ol' fashioned British Sit-Com...

More insane ramblings by the people who brought you beeeer milkshakes!
And as you know, these are open forums, you're able to come and listen to what I have to say.

I don't know that many people in the RWED forum. (cause I usually stay out of it) so I can name only four: Chrisisall, Citizen,Finn and AuRaptor. Citizen through AuRaptor would be fun disscussions because of the debates we'd have. Chrisisall I mostly agree with so I go to him when I'm in need of an ego boost.

I'm not sure I'd wanna make a list, for fear I'd leave someone off. But I gotta say, this is my favorite place for interesting discussion. Every now and then I think that I should find a place that caters specifically to political debate, but it's always a disappointment. There's just something about the mix here, it's addictive.

Why do we keep coming back? Sure the show is what brought us here, and it's a worthy draw, but most us have long since said pretty much everything there is to say about its genius. There's something else, something about the broad range of perspectives from a diverse group of people who, for the most part, actually have something interesting to say. It's more rare than I care to admit. You guys rock!

Only five ??? !!! That ain't fair!

PS Where I work, I'm - at best - average. But when I want interesting, insightful, wide-ranging, engaging discussion, I come here.

To echo the sentiment, people here ROCK!

Now what would be really fun would be to get all the RWED regulars together for a party...and require that no one give their screen name or any hints about who they are for the first couple of hours. Then have the big revelation. I bet we'd all be surprised. I'd just about be willing to travel somewhere central for that.

Geezer,

I'm shocked, amazed, and frankly, hell just froze over.

Not only do I agree with you, I think it's a GREAT idea! KUDOS!
