We should try and get sexy with the other boards, we're inbreeding too much. Get all of the people from the different forums who want to participate in organising ANYTHING Serenity-related on ONE board (I don't care which, although one specifically made for the SSC would be best, of course) and coordinate the events, and they can discuss it on their board, see what their people think. Who are, in fact, our people, and we are theirs. We keep forgetting that.
The forum should be able to be read by everyone, but only the representatives can post (and one forum for everyone else), so if anyone has remarks or ideas or complaints, they can talk them trough on their board and have their representative present them on the SSC board. That way, it will be waaaaay more organised. Talking about anything with the people on the other fansites is strongly encouraged as well, of course.
WE landed here, and liked it, and stayed. Maybe I would be posting on BrownCoatsRising right now instead of here if I had checked them out before this board, I dunno. I like it here, and this one board alone takes far too much of my time already. 
But I guess it's a good thing because it shows that we are many, but scattered. What I'm trying to say is, the different forums devide us a great deal, and we should do something about that. It should be possible to get all the boards organised for 3 months.
I'm still shocked about NOONE outside of BCR.com knowing about their plan.

Hey folks,
one of the veterans chiming in here,
I've heldoff comments as this thing has grown rather nasty. I think this is a good option, and this idea (while it needs more fleshing out) is good is solid.
I'm one of the screening organizers (for Houston we are preplanning and had been so for WEll over a month I just finally got the go ahead from the con to announce preplanning we are being overly cautious as we have many pots on the fire already, see June 23-25 we are having a shindig at the Apollocon convention complete with Greg Edmonson and Cedric from the Bedlam Bards, http://www.flying-dreams.com/lonestar/index.php this is something we have been working on full tilt since November.
One of the biggest problems the older crew members here are seeing is an almost... ok sometimes downright combative stance against 'versal and fox.
I understand Bix's concern he was trying to create an event that shows how generous and giving browncoats are and he has done a lot of legwork and gotten Universals backing to do so.
What this buying dvds on June 23 and sending that open letter to 'versal looks like is us posturing and being demanding, not to mention it could totally backfire on us (big talk and not enough follow up especially now with all the infighting). Yes something needs to be done and I think yall are on the right track with a summer campaign, the point of all this is to show a UNITED front, boycotting a screening folks that is stupid and does nothing to help us, besides its a chance to see our ship fly on the big screen again, and for many of you see her fly on the big screen for the first time. This is a wonderful chance for yall to drag the uninitiated and recruit more folks to our cause.
Firefly and Serenitys fanbase is growing daily. Look at all the newbie threads that show up DAILY i saw a post recently trying to herd all the newbies to one thread just so we are not overwhelmed with it. to all yall new folks a very big and hearty welcome and thank you.
The people watching Firefly when it was on the air were expected to just fade away when firefly ended, not grow stronger, look at us folks the movie came out last year, its out on dvd and still our numbers are growing, what other tv show or movie can boast that? there are not many. Even on a local level my Houston crew ( www.houstonbrowncoats.com) is just getting bigger and more active, I am not the least bit concerned with us "fading away" by the end of summer. Once you find Serenity you never leave, just kinda learn to live there. Search your hearts, firefly, and or serenity touched you in a way very few things ever do its a rare gem, read newbie threads you will see the feelings in your heart are echoed time and time again by the new folks.
I'm going to hold, I'm sincerely hoping yall have my back. Please let us work together towards the common goals, I understand there is much pride and grudges etc., but if we cannot work together and it dissolves into bickering and fighting we lose.

I am one of the new folks you mention, and notwithstanding the recent "elevated discussions," the genuine warmth and friendliness that I have seen here and on other FF/S boards is amazing.
I am lucky to live in a city, Raleigh, NC, where we will now have a Serenity Now / Equality Now screening, thanks to the user "Flame." I am going to support the Serenity Now screening by volunteering to help set things up and getting everyone I can to go. I will then support the Serenity Summer Campaign in every way possible. Both of these events are great and have distinct, but not mutually-exclusive, goals.
I just checked Amazon and the FF DVD set is now ranked at #7, which is amazing for a DVD set of a cancelled TV series that was released 2 1/2 years ago, and Serenity is still holding strongly in the 30's. The fanbase is increasing -- I know, I am one of the recent converts.
Thanks to those who are organizing these various events. I am very appreciative of your hard work, and the hard work of other vets who helped get Serenity made in the first place. I'll do my best to help out and hold the line.

Of course we can make sure that everyone knows that our intentions to do the Serenity Summer Campaign are celebrating all things Serenity and broadening the fanbase, but our HOPE is that MAYBE we'll grow so strong and make Firefly and Serenity so widely popular that the execs will notice they have a moneymaker in their safe, and give Joss that eagerly-awaited call.
Even if the latter doesn't happen, the Serenity Summer Campaign is still gonna be the shiniest and merriest funeral party ever, and Serenity deserves no less.
So how can we lose?

What I dont get is why people seem so intent on fighting over this. How about we just all try to do our best to support each other in our undertakings. Im going to throw a little shindig on June 23rd, and ill probebly do another on September 30th. And if there is anything else that people think I should participate in then thats all fine and dandy with me, just dont start a war about it.

The original idea was pretty simple, and that was it's beauty and also the best hope for actually pulling it off well: one day we fans buy a dvd and send a message. There really wasn't too much else to organize beyond the hurdle of contacting as many fans as possible and asking them to pass it on.
The other missions can be accomodated and planned to everyone's hearts content for Sept. 30th easily enough - how about:
On June 23rd - Buy the dvd
On Sept. 30th Celebrate Serenity
2 days
More missions than we can count
A rabble of fractious crazy 'coats

Well i cant argue with that, the orginal idea was pretty simple, but its also what a hell of a lot of people got all upset over and many arguements seemed to happen. (see the change of date thread)
Hence why Serenity Summer Campaign was invented. the people supporting this jsut want things all shiney and happy again:
It allows people to do the things they want on the 23, and use it as a start to keep it going through the summer, and go out with a bang on the 30th.

The problem with that is that B!x main complaint is that we're taking the attention away from the charity (just about the only thing I have to agree with him, although the good we do far outweighs that, imho), and that Browncoats might rather buy DVDs for Serenity Day than give money to SN/EN. Those are his valid points, so having the Buying Frenzy on Sept 30th would be better. Better as in "much more diplomatic", and we're trying to unite the fans here, so there'll always have to be compromise.
I don't know how the BrowncCoatsRiseAgain situation is going to develop, though.
We'd also miss the opportunity to ignite some shiny Christmas sales by people who have seen "our" DVDs and want to get them as presents for X-mas. Might not be a lot, but then again, might, if we go through with the summer campaign.
I realize the original plan was much simpler - but stuff happened, and the new situation calls for us to adjust. I'm not saying we should get pushed around, but we have to react to things outside of our little world.
Besides, I like complicated women, too. And not so complicated women. In conclusion, I like women, and we should have Serenity Day on Sept 30th, as the Grand Finale to the Serenity Summer Campaign.
