Understood. We have a name, a date when it starts and one, when it ends. I like the idea to have a campaign of some sort. BUT we´re just talking about names or labelling here. My question is, what exactly are we supposed to DO on June 23rd ?! Buy DVD´s? No, we´re not, are we?! We´re doing nothing for the sake of the charity-screenings that take place in the U.S. on this day. Or are we doing all of it, but nobody must know? Or what? I think, whether we have a campaign or not, we stick to the original plan to buy “Serenity” on June 23rd.
In my understanding, making the charity-screening a part of a “campaign” now (which is happening by having a campaign starting one June 23rd), is exactly, what Big B!X doesn´t want to happen. Or have I missed the point somewhere?!

Well i cant argue with that, the orginal idea was pretty simple, but its also what a hell of a lot of people got all upset over and many arguements seemed to happen. (see the change of date thread)
I'm not seeing the events the same way I guess - I saw one guy BIX getting upset, and then some heated discussion followed because some people wanted to lay down and placate him, and too quickly in the minds of many. And making him happy or restoring his joy isn't going to happen now, that ship has sailed. As has been pointed out, there are MANY Serenity releated things happening on that day already, so someone is going to be in his line of sight whether we're doing our thing or not.
2 days, June 23rd for buying dvds and Sept 30th for one big Megatastic Serenity Celebration - sounds like a winner.

Buying the DVDs should be on Serenity Day on Sept 30th, if only to not take away from the charity aspect by advertising a buying frenzy on the same day and having to confront Browncoats with the decision to either help charity OR Serenity. Can't have that. It's also a great opportunity for people to buy lots of DVDs for Christmas, Browncoat holidays shopping, so to speak.
We're gonna have to check what exactly the BrownCoatsRising guys are up to, and if B!x and Kaele see the benefits of the campaign plan.
Then we plan the details. If we do it the other way around, we're just gonna be pissed if there's opposition after hard planning, and the whole hwai-fest will start anew.
See, learning from mistakes.

In no way should be boycott the charity screenings. I don't remember anyone ever suggesting that, and if they did they were a loner. That part of June 23rd needs our support, to show that we browncoats are not just crazy fans, but willing to help a cause. If there was a viewing in my area I'd go, but it didn't work out that way.
All we are saying is to continue with the original, simple, buy the DVD plan also on the 23rd and go to support the charity. Use those DVDs to spread the word over the summer along with posts and letters to Universal thanking them, showing our support, and representing our strength. Then we have another organized celelbration on Sept. 30th, and between June 23rd and Sept. 30th we plan our next celebration for after September 30th. This is a campaign, starting in the summer of '06, and it will continue for some time, long past any of the dates given.
Again, please, no one boycott Bix's screenings. SUpport a good cause. And keep celebrating and spreading the word.

The Serenity Summer campaign is a great idea.
Focus on Equality Now for June 23rd, and then a marketing push for Serenity through the summer, culminating in Sept 30th. (gach, that's fall buying week and right before the bookcon, so I don't know how much help I'll be the last week before the push.)
And I think there's no reason to make Equality Now a one day deal! We can carry it along through the summer promoting awareness and fundraising.

Yeah, promoting Equality now along the way shouldn't really be that much more work - of course, we can do more. Maybe another set of organisers could make sure Equality Now's interests are represented in the campaign, as well - all on a reasonable scale, of course.
People still come here for Serenity, after all. But it's always shiny to do something good, especially if you can combine it with something you love.

ok this is more or less what i posted over on the change the date, but i think i got buried. this is the way/plan as i see
june 23 the start of the SSC.- support the charity screenings, and do what ever you have planned to make this day. incl buying dvd if thats what you want.(small sale spike) although it would be kinda cool if the brought dvds were for charities and libaries and such. keep the day in the charity theme.
The Summer- time for shindigs my friends, bbq, and conventions. showing the dvd to everyone you can, advertise the 30th. advertise anything and everything.
sep 30th- incourage everyone you recurited in the summer to buy today, (The big dvd buy) Increased sales over the summer hopefully ending with annother big sale spike. which as well as thank you letters to universal im sure there appreciate .
Could we all come together under this one SSC banner? I'd like to think so. why have just one day when we can use all the summer.
remember im not saying anyone cant do anything, im saying we can all do everything!
Just on a personal note, i prefere our efforts to be more in a thanking vein than an attacking vein.
If it does help with bring a sequel all the better. If not we will have had fun, and helped charity, and said thank you to universal, who did after all give us the BDM.

I also agree however that these plans are not set in stone, untill we hear what some of the original organiser have to say, they cant be.
just because things are planned one way doesnt mean we cant be flexiable.
