They're going for June 23rd.. They're featured in this months Wired, and have posted on the .org site to say they plan to organise something.
So we're currently on course for having 3 different factions of the fandom having 3 different events competing for different publicity for different reasons...
This is *NOT* presenting the fandom in a good way to Universal. This is *NOT* going to be about a sequel, or charity, or anything at this rate. It's going to turn into bad press. Which is never what this is about.
At the moment, I'd say there's actually little to no in fighting from the people in charge, but the events are just going to damage things for everybody. Which wasn't the idea anybody had.

In fact, the whole point of this was to be united and organise every Browncoat in a big way.
You think the BRA people might be interested in the campaign idea and join with us? I'm saying "join WITH us", not "join us", mind you.
And is B!x throwing a fit because of this?

Your right, maybe we should settle this once and for all, im thinking something along the lines of opening up three new threads, one for the 23 one for the 30th and one for the ssc. if you post in that thread your name will be counted as a vote, obviously no matter how many times you post you only get one vote. give it 2 maybe 3 days, and count up the post.
something needs to be descided, voting seems the only fair way. when times up we know what we are doing, and can get beind it.
if somepeople dont agreed with what ever wins, well thats voting for you.
I will set up the threads if people like this idea, but not other wise at the moment theres two many threads all over the place and its just getting confusing.
anyone one feel to comment?

Oh i dont know, maybe this is just confusing the matter further, and im damn sure it doesnt need anymore of that.

Dunno, to be honest, what Bix feels -- or if anybody has tried contacting the BrowncoatsRiseAgain folks.
I've been reading some of the other topics here and some of the mud slinging here is pretty tragic. I put out a press release for charity screenings of the movie yesterday, which appeared on US TV... It's probably the most publicity the movie has had lately. It's positive publicity, reaching the masses. And what is going on here? There's name calling and hair pulling.
Uh-huh. Whateva, like. All I'll say is people need to calm down, and decide what is going to help sell the franchise to the outside. If there's any way I can help with that, I will.

I love all the enthusiasm here at FFF and don't let anyone tell you it's bad for fandom. That's bullshit.
Nobody owns June 23, nobody is a better fan than anyone else. Don't cave in to "save the fandom" crap, that is ridiculous. As if you suddenly have to follow a bunch of rules because you love the show and want to share it with others.
The negative, condencending attitude in that Whedonesque thread really annoys me. It's THE site for Joss news though, and Joss frequently posts there himself, which is damn cool. But the people who post there aren't better fans than anyone else, and they act like they're in charge of all Joss fan projects or something. I say, don't give in to that shit.
Glad to see you are still around 'Tash. We've missed seeing you post here.
I agree w/ 'Tash, why change the date just because a few fans on another site are whinging. Ok, so they planned something "first" on the same date. So what? They don't own the rights to organizing a fan driven campaign on June 23rd. No reason why we should change the date.

So the plan as I see it is now to keep June 23rd. Celebrate Serenity with everybody else just as we planned by buying DVDs, sending letters, going to screenings, and what not. But we continue from there. We use this as a kick off for a campaign that leads into a second celebration for Serenity on September 30th. Thats more parties for everyone and more chances to spread the word. This way everybody wins. We celebrate Serenity Day on June 23rd. We hold a Serenity Summer Campaign starting from that day on. We have the Big Damn Anniversary (or whatever we call it) on September 30th. That's my suggested course of action.
One goal.
One plan.
One army of Browncoats.
On June 23rd, we aim to misbehave.

What about if June 23rd became like a kind of dry run to test the effectiveness of the campaign? Keep campaigning to have folks buy DVDs on that date (Happy Birthday Joss!), afterward, we can see what the sales figures ended up being. Then the battle plan will become a lot clearer. Either the numbers will be really great (don't mean to be negative, but doubt that truly "awesome" numbers can happen in such a short amount of time), or the sales will be a lot less than all the great expectations were hoping for. But at least some "real world" results will be available.
Then folks can get geared up for Serenity Day on September 30th. Either with confidence that we're already coming from a strong place, or the cold, hard realization that there's still a whole lotta promotin' to be done.
If the "test run" thing sounds like a good idea, then it can be named something without the word "Serenity" in it. That will help delineate the DVD buying campaign from the Serenity Now/Equality Now charity screenings. Some peace can be achieved it the names of the different events really are "different".
Sometimes an army has to have a few skirmishes to test itself, then they can come back for the big battle even stronger.
11th Hour
P.S.
For anyone who hasn't done guerilla marketing, let me just say it can be a tough battle. It's fun because you're doing it with your browncoat buddies, but going out there into the big world, and talkin' up folk who won't initially have interest in what you have to say, is a lot to overcome. There's a lot of things out there trying to grab peoples' attention... takes a lot of persistence and good energy to make a dent.
You can get already existing fans excited about an idea, but getting other folk convinced is a different matter. It will take time to create the kind of effect fans want for Serenity Day.
Now this is an idea, and a very sound one too.
I agree that keeping June 23rd & using it as a test date is a very good idea. It will allow us to get the steps in place to organize this event & get our feet wet with implementing them. It will give us the experience we need to make a September 30th a big success.
I'm all for it.

Gossi,
Thank you for posting and for stating the obvious need to change the date. As you can see from reading this thread, there were folks yesterday that intelligently and with a great desire for peace came up with a solution in the Serenity Summer Campaign. I think that plan covers everything nicely and would hope that you would like it to.
I hope that the leader of this Serenity Day thing... Kaele.... can be persuaded to change this into the shiny solution for us all, versus the one day has to be no matter what militant movement that it is now.
Just you posting helped. Thank you!
Oh, and cool.. re: the US publicity!
