We, the Fresno Browncoats, began planning two weeks ago today for the June 23 date (22 in our case). We have a theater, we have sponsors, we have a website. Everything is a go for that date.
We can't and won't abandon our plans. Hard work has gone into this so far. We're almost to the fun part--putting up flyers all over town, selling tickets, and finding prizes for a trivia session before the show starts.
Once this event is over, I will be ready to take on something else. It's a lot of fun, and I wouldn't miss it for anything.
So here's my vote: Keep the June 23 screenings, and make plans for the summer and September 30.

Some comments for clarity...

You may not be aware of any fights, but there was a rather heated exchange between b!x and kurya on WHEDONesque that has been referred to by several people. Here's the link in case you missed it:
http://whedonesque.com/comments/10149
The exchange got so heated in fact that a moderator had to step in to request that those involved take the discussion off-site.
Btw, you know good and well how upset b!x's disclaimer made many of the good folks involved in this campaign... there were numerous emails commenting on it. I find your statement to be rather disingenuous.

Just because there's a disclaimer on his site does not mean he's fighting with anyone.
There have been many people put off by the wording of that disclaimer... it even prompted a thread on this site because it has caused upset. See the posts from ZOID detailing his emails with b!x, there's plenty of fightin' words exchanged there.

If everything is based on how B!x feels about having his date usurped, then it should be Joss we're asking. And following that odd line of rationale, Sept. 30th is out as well, because Gossi mentioned a "Thank you, Universal" letter writing campaign. This is a path of procrastination and twisted lines of what-ifs and might-bes that I do not want to head down.
"Everything" is not based on how b!x feels, and many of the posts on this site reflect that. Many people who voted for September 30th to be "Serenity Day" have stated that their main reason is because they feel strongly that more time is needed for the day to succeed the way people want it to. Did you read those posts?
As for Gossi's idea to have September 30th be a "Thank You" day to Universal... well wouldn't a big "Serenity Day" DVD buying day be a great way to thank them? Where's the conflict? The two go together beautifully.
Btw, even gossi himself, on Whedonesque, suggested that Serenity Day take place on September 30th... appears he doesn't have a problem with it.

Now don't all go getting your knickers in a twist if you voted for the 30th, because I ain't done yet!
Forget the donated website fees, donated URLs, and donated PHPBB, there's a darn good reason for it.
The Browncoat Army.
An Army isn't assembled for one measly battle, it's assembled to defend, to protect, to organize long standing campaigns, and sometimes even to attack. This is what I'd like you all to do, although we're attacking in the metaphorical sense. We have a fandom to protect here and a movie to promote. Doesn't matter what day, what it's called, who organized it, or what it's in honor of!
The whole army metaphor is gettin' kinda creepifying here...

But the point is that we're PRO-ACTIVE. We're working for what we love. Even if it's a single post on a board somewhere to spread the word. Not everyone will be able to attend a screening, myself included. This is a way to involve all Browncoats, new and old.
For something meant to involve all Browncoats, a lot of peoples' opinions, and votes, are being brushed aside.

I stepped up, am trying to coordinate a few things, and was about to finalize some of them by week's end. I HAD made a decision and had announced it to everyone on the volunteer mailing list.
I'm keeping the 23rd as the Serenity Day DVD Drive.
There's just so much "I" in those statements.
A fair vote can be respected, but that mailing list you mentioned all of a sudden had people popping up "voting" for the 23rd who I hadn't even seen in the loop before that. There were serious rumblings on the way the vote was handled... and then plans were pushed hard to make the 23rd the date whether the "30th" folks liked it or not.
It was the tactics I don't agree with.

Wow--I totally missed all the "fun"
....
I vote for the Campaign. I hate that there is bad air between Browncoats... "Why is everyone so mad..?"... The one thing that truly matters during the hiatus of Firefly is EACH OTHER. Without each other, we have nothing. We need everyone to be on good terms and show respect for one another.
It's not guaranteed that we'll all be warm and fuzzy for every single Browncoat...but at least we can all show respect for one another. Doesn't matter who "started it" (we're not 5 years old)--just matters that we get this bad air cleared away.
I've only been a Browncoat since March--but the thing I love about ya'll is that you stick together and you hold together. Whether newbs or vets or in between...we have to be united. At one point, you were a newb, and at one point, hopefully, a vet has given some wisdom. We're all on the same level here.
For the same reasons others have voted to change the date, so too, do I. If there's any bad feelings that should be going on....it should be used positively on those wanting to see us fail!

WHAT?!?!?!?!
CHANGE OF DATE?!?!?!?
People, I was enthusiast from the beginning about this event.
I thought Browncoats were the ONLY group of people who could rally under a leader, organize things fast and clean and get an amazing result.
I was wrong. This is a mess.
Sorry, but it is just the way it looks.
This thread shouldn't have been started.

I've revised my collection of guerilla marketing posters many, many, MANY times to keep up with so many different promotions for Firefly and Serenity.
Why is it such a big deal to revise a date on a poster?

Enthusiasm is great. In fact all the folks who have posted here are enthusiastic. There's just some issues about the campaign that were important to discuss.

Fast? Clean? Amazing? Huh?!
Wow, that's a pretty cool legend to have... the reality is a lot messier, but more interesting. I think you saw the Hollywood version of the Browncoat story. I hope it had a really kick-ass soundtrack, and I was portrayed by Michelle Pfeiffer... hehe...

Guess I've seen so many wars, I'm used to it....
If folks are this riled up, then it is a subject worth discussing.
