When is it too much?

Hey, when someone says something about your use of FF lingo, just tell 'em, "You can't stop the signal!" and shake your fist at them. ;)
The thing I like about FF lingo, is that it fits so well into regular conversation, gorram it.

Seriously, though, there is a point where you have to give some consideration to the unenlightned folk around you. If they seem on the verge of organizing an intervention, it's probably time to tone it down a notch.
Just work on 'em slow and steady and eventually they'll come around. Or not. Either way, you have us terrifying space monkeys to see you through the worst of the withdrawl symptoms.

Well my personal take is that when it comes to the lingo lay off. Every word that someone doesn't understand or reference they don't get is like an inside joke that they're not in on, and that drives people away.
If you want to convert someone get them to watch the show, don't use words they don't know (or even one that they are merely not part of their everyday vocabulary) or hum any song over and over again.
Also, some people will see exactly what you see, hear exactly what you hear, and yet not understand what you understand. After someone has seen it if you try to convince them it's great you're out of luck.
If they saw it in a normal state of mind and paid attention and they still don't feel the way they do simply move on. (If they saw it while drunk and were paying more attention to the wall it might be a good idea to get them to see it again.)
Also there's a big difference between liking a show and loving a show. My whole family likes the show, my mom uses the phrase, "Mine is an evil laugh," fairly often, but none of them feel the same way I do.
To them I might look like a fanatic, I don't know. But if I am a fanatic I'm proud to be one, and as for weird...
Yes, you are weird.
If you have a problem with that it's time for some soul searching, come into it, accept it, and perhaps even be proud of it. It's differences that define people, and being weird is being an individual who is pretty damn well defined.
We're all weird here. The mistake is to think it is a bad thing to be that way.

If you quote Firefly without your friends having seen it, you can annoy them. Believe me, I know. But if they've seen it, or understand why you like it, and if they are good friends, they will understand. If you quote Firefly without your friends having seen it, you can annoy them. Believe me, I know. But if they've seen it, or understand why you like it, and if they are good friends, they will understand. Fanatics spend all their time in bulletin boards and playing rpgs. They write fanfiction and host fan websites!

IMHO this should be bold and underlined. And needlepointed for your wall. Think of the times you've been on the other end of the situation.

I do that, but I also must admit that the Chinese comes in handy at times as swearing is considered 'Violence in the Workplace' for my place of business, so to blow off steam, I'll cuss in Chinese. Or quote Jayne from the BDM, as I did today when the supposidly shiny new computer system went wonky and I muttered that it was beginin' to damage my calm.

Never really got tattoing chinese signs (honestly never really got tattoos or chinese) untill after I saw Firefly. Now I have this huge feeling that the word "serenity" tattood on my shoulder would look cool. Probebly never will do it though
