And yes, i would fall in love with him for all the reasons mentioned above. He would cherish any woman he was with - what woman wouldn't fall in love with a man like that! Now, if only I could find a man like that!

That this question was even asked is funny. It's almost funnier hearing the defenses of the stance. It's because women think he's hot. All the rest is in their heads.

The dude obviously doesn't care about women. Well he cares about their flesh, but not who they are. I can't even tell if he understands women have feelings or thoughts of their own. He couldn't see when Kaylee was mad. He believes Vera is worth miles more than a human woman. And he would only lift a hand to help some women he doesn't know when he finds out they're whores.

If the part was played by an overweight slob and everything else being exactly the same, the women's stance would be totally different.

These are my opinions of course. Though I must admit guys work the exact same way when we look at women. There was a hottie in a club just last night that I would have said was pure and virtuous, but my female friend said she was obviously a slut. I have to deep down believe that my friend is right because of situations like this. Most guys can probably see Jayne for who he is.

And that's the beauty of it all! Imagination can be a wonderful aphrodisiac. We can project what we like because Joss did such a great job writing a character who is more than what we see at first glance. And Adam Baldwin takes Jayne to another level.

Jayne is crude, mean, and greedy, and there are probably more scenes of this behavior than the endearing ones, but...the little touches that Whedon and Baldwin add make a girl wonder what lies underneath.

And, yes, if an overweight slob played Jayne, he probably wouldn't have such a following, but he isn't - so we have the thread "Why do women love Jayne?"

Thanks Jaynebunkwoman for the compliment. To answer your question, yes, I have written fanfic and I'm currently in the process of one right now. I have two listed on this site: The Way and I will sing for you. Let me know what you think. I have also written some LOTR fic over at fanfiction.net under the same handle.

As for Mattcoz, stop rolling your eyes. I know Jayne wants sex. But think for a second. He can get any prostitute he wants whenever they set down for much cheaper than his prized possession. So why would he give up Vera? There's more than just sex involved in his thinking. Then again, maybe he has a thing for redheads...

Ok from the start...I saw the FF trailer on Fox. They introduced Jayne as "The Merc whose name is Jayne" or something to that avail.

I'm like fua yea!

I have to say this: Jayne isn't the type of guy I'd fall for. The big powerful stupid guy (even though we all know he's a lot smarter than he's giving off ...or I'd like to think).

I'm just drawn to Jayne b/c yes, Adam Baldwin is really REALLY hot stuff who just happens to have a lot more muscles than I'm used to liking. But other than that, his character is funny and is a big teddy bear... I think Adam was described sd such once.

I find it funny how the older cast gets all thes young girls after them...Anthony Stewart Head for example....I wonder if Ron Glass is turning some young girls heads like Adam is...

Girl, yes. Young, no.
I think alot of the appeal of Jayne, is that he's the older woman's sex symbol. It was much the same way with James Marsters on Buffy. He's the same age as Adam, and the only reason I watched that show.
To further that correlation, BtVS had no problem in pairing a 40-something actor with a 20-something in a romantic capacity (i.e. Spike & Buffy). I'm sure the same would have held for Firefly with Jayne & Kaylee.

don't matter none to me how old he is. i'm 25 and let me tell ya, he is one hell of a sex symbol.

the main reason women love jayne is because adam baldwin is GORGEOUS!!! when you think of jayne, you think of adam. i mean, come on, who wouldn't, his eyes, his smile, oh, and have you seen those arms!!!!

but, the character of jayne is just a great character. all our friends, guys included love jayne!

he's got the best one liners, he's rude, he kicks major ass, he has a way with the ladies, and you just never know what he's gonna do. the character is what you think of when you think of a man , big, strong, (and did i mention adam baldwin is gorgeous?), might not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but he knows what his job is, and he does it. he's their protector.

guys wanna be jayne, woman want to be with jayne.
he's just an all around great character!

that's why people love jayne.
