I think he died of boredom. The tribunal has gone on for a number of years already and hasn't really been going anywhere at any pace. Last week one of Milosevic's 'buddies' committed suicide, probably because the entire war crime hearings were like continuously watching a Rosie O'Donnell Show marathon in slow motion for 4 or 5 years and he couldn't take it anymore, and now it seems that Milosevic was pretty sick and tired of it too.

The real question is what this says about the effectiveness of war crime tribunals such as the one in The Hague. They drag on for ages even though it's clear to everybody what the verdict is going to be, if one ever gets to that stage. The Saddam trial has a real danger of going the same way.

Other people can occasionally be useful, especially as minions. I want lots of minions.

Milosevic conducted his own defense at the war crimes trial. Tomanovic acted as his legal representative in other matters as well as helping him prepare his defense.

Milosevic found dead in his cell

Former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic has been found dead in the detention centre at The Hague tribunal.

The tribunal said an autopsy would be conducted to establish cause of death, but there was no indication of suicide.

Zdenko Tomanovic, a lawyer for Mr Milosevic, says the autopsy should take place elsewhere as his client said he was being poisoned in the jail.

Mr Milosevic, 64, had been held at the UN war crimes tribunal for genocide and other war crimes since 2001.

Treatment dispute

Mr Milosevic suffered from high blood pressure and a heart condition.

Last month the tribunal rejected a request by the former president to go to Russia for medical treatment.

The BBC's Geraldine Coughlan at The Hague says Mr Milosevic's death is a blow to prosecutors, who had been hoping to convict him as being part of a joint criminal enterprise that operated across the former Yugoslavia, intent on setting up a greater Serbian state.

Mr Milosevic faced charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity for his alleged central role in the wars in Bosnia, Croatia and Kosovo during the 1990s.

He also faced genocide charges over the 1992-95 Bosnia war, in which 100,000 people died.

His lawyer told BBC News 24 that Mr Milosevic would not have committed suicide because he wanted to complete his trial, which had been due to restart on 14th March and was scheduled to end in May this year.

"In fact he said to me a few weeks ago. 'I hadn't fought this case for as long as I have with any intention of to do any harm to myself, Mr Kay'. And that is why he wanted medical treatment," Steven Kay said.

The other guy commitred suicide. Ever noticed how all of the opponents of TE commit suicide? Like the world was being run by lovesick teens or something.

Anyway, this is Team Evil Europe. The EU probably offed them both to prevent certain information from coming out about the EU/UN operations in Yugoslavia, which were pretty appalling. Hillary, Bill and Co added a good 100K to the death toll there, there was a lot of evil.

Milosevic was a very evil man of course, and undoubtedly deserved everything he got. No real loss there.

I firmly believe that the third of these scenarios contained information that could be useful in establishing the causes of death of Henri Paul, the Princess of Wales, and Dodi Al Fayed. This third scenario suggested that Milosevic could be assassinated by causing his personal limosine to crash. Dr. Fishwick proposed to arrange the crash in a tunnel, because the proximity of concrete close to the road would ensure that the crash would be sufficiently violent to cause death or serious injury, and would also reduce the possibility that there might be independent, casual witnesses. Dr. Fishwick suggested that one way to cause the crash might be to disorientate the chauffeur using a strobe flash gun, a device which is occasionally deployed by special forces to, for example, disorientate helicopter pilots or terrorists, and about which MI6 officers are briefed about during their training.
