The main reason the new BSG is better than the old BSG...no Muffy the Daggit and no Boxy!

BSG is one KICK-ASS SHOW.
Too bad sci fi channel couldn't show it together with a new season of Firefly. That would be HEAVEN.
The new BSG is better than the old BSG for one reason in particular to satisfy my feminist roots: Women play much bigger and more in depth roles, and there are more of them.
The 70s show maybe had THREE (count the fingers on one hand) memorable female characters that did not get killed off: Cassiopea, the reformed hooker with a heart of gold, a character named Athena who I am not quite sure what she did, and Sheba, the ONE token female viper pilot. And that was it.
Not much for a growing scifi fan girl to emulate.

Oh, Boxy is on the show. He was there in a couple of scenes in the miniseries, and also in one scene during Season 1. He's a depressed, bitter, and surly kid who lost both his parents in the Cylon attack on Caprica.

I would've agreed with you on the original. But one of the numerous strongpoints to the new show is that I am developing quite the admiration for 'the bucket'. Never liked the original, but this new one is something. IMHO, the vipers can't hold a candle to the Battlestar itself. (Then again, candles wouldn't last long in space...
)And I love the way they call them the bucket and the beast!!

hey guys, i finally got the BSG mini-series(me being the one who originally asked whether i should check out the series or not). checked it out, and i liked it a lot. i definitely agree that BSG and firefly can't really be compared because other than the fact that they're space operas, they're two COMPLETLEY different shows.
anyway i've been reading through the arguments between the old series die-hard fans and the new ones; i like the new one just fine and don't plan to check out the original series unless something really sparks my interest to. i don't think of it as a remake, it's a new series with the same original idea of humans vs. cylons and name. like one person said, it's the same difference between batman begins and adam west's batman.
so..next question! farscape? what do you think.

I did enjoy the whole 'the bucket and the beast' scene.
Of course, I'd call Pegasus, "the place where security does not exist and flag officers die under mysterious circumstances".
