It does boggle the mind doesn't it?
Xero doesn't like the original.
Xero doesn't like the new series.
Why are we having the conversation?
I don't like liver.
I don't like head cheese.
I have NEVER had a argument about how liver could be better if only nature hadn't interfered and made it ucky. And I've never followed up with how head cheese is just a sad version of ucky liver.
I'm thinking Xero needs a hobby. A hobby outside of wasting bandwidth comparing two things he doesn't like that is.

Yes, it is weird! If he doesnt like the old and new BSGs, why even bother kicking up a fuss in this thread? The answer to that is because it gets our goats. We rush in to defend our show because we love it so much and find it interesting. I BET Xerogravity secretly watches the new BSG and actually likes it himself...he just won't admit it I bet, he's just way into the Devil's Advocate thingy.
The new BSG is a shiny show, and I havent missed an episode. I have every episode of BSG, Serenity, and Firefly on my ipod video. The new BSG is quality programming; good entertainment, and there is no force in the 'verse that could ever make me dislike the show.

I love the show also [I haven't watched enough of it to say I'm devoted to it yet], don;t get me wrong. I just thought that Frack sounded rather wierd in the show. I can get by it, if thewy didn't use it so freaking much!
I'm watching the season finale on friday and I'll decide if it deserves my devotion then.

Nah Storymark. Not quite. But I would gladly tack up a poster of him in my garage on my hero-worship wall of manly-men. In the old BSG, he's a fly-boy jock, fearless warrior, and adventuring rogue who kicks in doors with his laser pistol in hand. He's ready to go down fighting. Fuck ya! I'd tack that SOB's picture up on my wall of idols. If he fell in battle, I'd commemorate his ass with viking-like warrior songs around the council fire. His name would live in legend. Why? Because he's a man and a warrior. I'd tack his picture up where it could be honored.
But never on my pillowcase... the only pics I'd tack on my pillow have breasts, no penis, and are 100 percent women. I don't swing that way. I wouldn't be suprised if you are they type who tacks a pic of "Gaius Baltar" on your pillow though. You secretly gay dude? Sounds like it.
Bishop76: You agree with me (or so you say) yet you think the "new" Vipers are great looking (then you counter my POVs).
The "new" Vipers are the ONLY thing in the show they didn't "re-imagine". Outside of the a lil more dirt-&-grime and wear-&-tear (good ole CGI graphics), and a handfull of decals and minor details... the new vipers are identical to the old. If they had done the same with cylon ships and bots I'd bite my upper-lip and endure the hideous acting, the bad storyline, etc.
Other's have said what you are now saying (a quote from Storymark more-or-less... "the original intention of science fiction is to use fantastical, fictional settings and circumstances to reflect and/or comment on current political and social issues.").
I haven't tackled this issue yet, but I will now. I take issue with all of you on this notion that (as you put it Bishop76) "the point of science fiction is to make you think about modern day issues while masking it in a fantastical world."
That's absurd you buncha fools. That's insanely stupid and false. Sci-fi is not about proving how this or that point of view in modern-day politics will be demonstrated correct in the future. It's about pure fuckin fantasy WITHOUT the hindering effects of politics. It's about HOW science will reshape the future. Not how it'll prove some ideological load of modern-day horseshit correct. These partisan whores who would argue otherwise are "die-for-the-cause" hacks who never loved scifi to begin with (like Spielberg and his remake of H.G. Wells "War of the Worlds".. he should stick to archaeologist with a whip and pistol fighting nazi-flicks, but then his creativity was been tapped out long ago and he's nothing but big-budget politics anyhow).
The political whores who dicatate what's allowable scifi want their cause shoved down scifi fan's throats because they think it'll get their candidates more votes. Left and Right. More left than right (since "blacklisting" of the right is alive and well ~ the pendulum swings, and is about to swing in the opposite direction, once again -- eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth, an endless cycle of revenge, etc.). I just love seeing politics argues in the arena of science and science fiction. Can't get enough, please gimme more.
It's all just a tool for a bunch of phoney-ass political whores to promote their "important" issue of the hour. Fuck them! I hate the whole damned lot of them. I wish they'd keep their politics out of my fuckin scifi but that just ain't ever gonna happen. But hey... Bishop76 and crew, believe what you want. As LEEH says (who blasphemes and says the new-BSG is better than FF), the new show is "socially-conscious" according to her. Ya ya sure sure.

Plotlines of new Battlestar Galactica episodes (spoilers)
At least 6 episodes of the "new" Battlestar Galactica are being produced for the scifi channel. Our spies tell us about the following plotlines:
1) The Cylons launch a surprise attack, disrupting Starbuck and Boomer's lesbian wedding.
2) A Cylon operative slips a secret ingredient in Commander Adama's chilupa which makes him both indecisive and impotent.
3) President Roslin goes through menopause, getting hot flashes that set off warning indicators on the Galactica.
4) A new Cylon model is revealed, in the form of Robin Williams. He comes aboard the Galactica offering a peace treaty, but is secretly paving the way for an attack by demoralizing the crew with his unfunny humor.
5) Athena, played by Jennifer Lopez, makes an appearance. She wants to wear sports bras and short shorts on the bridge against the Commander's express orders, causing a crisis.
6) A cylcon suicide bomber crashes into the landing bay and starts a huge fire, cutting power and disrupting Starbuck's sex change operation, raising doubts as to whether her new male genitalia will work properly.

Sci-fi is about arguing how this or that point of view in modern-day politics can be demonstrated wrong in whatever circumstances (the future, an alternate timeline, an "alien" situation, or even in the present).
Ultimately, Sci-fi is something that should help people think, for better or worse. Much like The Daily show, it's not about expressing approval of any one stance, but about pointing out weaknesses all around, urging people to consider their stances rather than just accepting them.
Frankly, I don't see any "proving" going on in new Galactica. The Cylons do or don't have souls, God is or isn't helping the Cylons, security is or isn't more important than freedom, religion is or isn't more about hope than truth. . . Lot of questions being raised, lot of people dealing with them in their own unique ways that may or may not work for them as individuals.

I liked Battlestar am still watching the second series.
Just watched all the Firefly series this week and then watched Serenity last night. Have to say I was quite saddened by the fact that I had watched them all and there would be no more :(

Hey IRONSPY,
I am thinking along the same lines as you. The new Baltar is NOT a stereotypical "mustache twirler", he is a deep, complex individual where the old Baltar was rather 1 dimensional. Hell, there are even times when you LIKE the guy, and then he goes and does something wrong for the right reasons, or something right for the wrong reasons.
I think the actor who plays him is a FRACKING GENIUS!
