Actually the Message was one of my favorites. However, I would imagine Out of Gas to be higher than it is. Heart of Gold seems low to me as well. To agree with CBY though, it is what it is. That's the average of the Browncoats that have voiced their opinion.
Make sure you put a review on there if you disagree. Don't just give an episode a 1 just becuase you want the scale to shift. Just be honest. As far as newcomers seeing it, it seems best to start at the beginning. If they don't give it a fair shot after seeing one episode that may not be the best, I suppose they'd never really give it a shot. If someone would start with the best then the other episodes would seem lower quality.

Well in the case of the ratings for Out of Gas there is compelling evidence that the rating does not reflect the general browncoat opinion. 3 reviews posted on the same day with ratings of 0. Further the blurbs provided with the reviews suggest that the reviewer found some redeaming qualities and would have, if honestly ranking, given the episode at least a 5 or 6. This to me suggests pranksterism and calls into question that shows ranking at the very least.

David makes a good point above, and CBY is pretty off base. Picking a best episode is subjective, but if CBY has actually used his touted ability to read this board with any regularity, he would know that Out of Gas is, in fact, the episode the most folks talk about here as the best episode, regardless of the numbers in the rating box.

Certainly the three "0" ratings are absurd.

My careful reading of this site,combined with my faulty memory, would rank fan approval in this order - Out of Gas, Serenity, Objects in Space, The Message, and Ariel as the winners of best episode. There are many who really like Jaynestown, War Stories and Our Mrs Reynolds. Heart of Gold has been often hailed as the worst, along with Safe - but Heart of Gold has been getting alot of love lately.

Just for a bias check - My favorites are War Stories, Serenity and Out of Gas. Did not like the Message and Heart of Gold much.

See how I'm not punching him, I think I've grown!

Could you do me a favour and do a quick review for the Message? One more less than glowing review and OoG could overtake it.

We're almost home. Soon I can start a new crusade of some sort - War Stories is a bit low...
