jumping into the middle

I was in bad need for a Joss Whedon fix today, so I went to the store to buy some DVDs and ended up with Buffy Season 3 which was the earliest season I could get. I already watched the first three eps of it and so far it is okay, I get into the story nicely.

But is there anything I really should know to be able to understand this without having seen seasons 1 und 2? I definitly plan watching them in the future, so don't give away too many details, but can you give me a short tour to the Buffy universe up to the beginning of season 3?

Actually, that's the way I started with Buffy, too. With episodes near the beginning of season three. I think it works out fine, it justs takes a little time to catch up on all the characters and such.

I started with "Earshot," near the end of S3, and didn't have much trouble catching up. If there's anything you come across that you're unclear about, the fans here oughta be able to take care of it for you--just ask.

Yup, shouldn't be a problem at all. You'll miss out on a few things, but you can always go back and catch up. I started in the middle, too - could be it's the best way to get hooked on Buffy. If I'd started with S1, I don't know if I'd have gotten into it as much. S1 isn't bad, mind you; it's just that the show got better through seasons 2, 3, and 4. My opinion only...just sayin'. In truth, though, ALL of them are good. The worst Buffy episode is better than 99% of what passes for "good TV" these days!

Also, if you have TiVo (or know how to program your VCR or DVR), FX's cycle of re-runs is near the end of S7 right now (7 am eastern). I'd guess they might be back to the beginning sometime around the 24th/27th...
