Dark Horse’s Dirk Wood has confirmed yesterday that Joss Whedon will be working on new Serenity comics, bringing us new adventures in the 'verse, which are canon (ie fact). He says they will be "set within the continuity of Firefly".

Wow!
It's so nice to know how I'll be spending my money. I believe this is called budgeting, or something.

For the most part, budgeting is highly overrated. Just keep swiping stuff from the grass-eating stsho. Easier that way...
I can mildly enjoy the stories in the comics, but I've never been a comics / graphic novel kind of gal. Must be some sort of learning disorder. (It's also irritating, since that's one of the few ways we're getting anything new and canon out of the Firefly universe these days.)

HOLY CRAP.
You... you... you got... my user name...
*dies*
No, I'm serious, that has never happened before in years of posting under this handle on at least 4 different geek-heavy message boards.

Um, on topic, I like comics fine, but I much prefer the moving images to the static ones. Still and all, it's something.

And mom worried that all that reading wouldn't ever amount to anything...wanted me to 'get out' and 'get some sun' and other silly suchwhich. *piffle* (Then again, she said Star Trek would give me nightmares. When a five-year-old can look at an ep and think, "Geez, that's cheesy", I don't think nightmares are the biggest problem.) I've read and re-read those books, and the shiny never rubs off 'em.
And now, for something completely on-topic:
I hope that Joss gets to continue some moving-picture form of the Firefly universe. The cast+crew all seem to actually enjoy working with each other, and they all seem to really enjoy the universe that Joss built. Doing something you love, with people you actually like and respect...it doesn't get much better.
And, of course, the whole "paychecks" thing probably doesn't suck.
I like good narrative stories, and I'll admit - sometimes my brain can get hung up on inconsequentials like "the artist didn't represent that person / character the way I imagined". This gets in the way of enjoying graphic novels.

has there been anymore news on the comic?
i am chompin at the bit to get my hands on

excitement from the community about this. we
need to make this the biggest selling comic
on the market. hell of all time. look at
what other popular independant and even not
as popular comics have done.
Spawn- movie, cartoon, big time toy line
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles- bad movies,
toy lines, cartoons
The Crow- good movie and some bad ones,
toys, TV show
Judge Dredd- really bad movie
Faust- Bad direct to video movie
the list keeps going but you see my point.
this can be a huge chnace and we can't let
it slip by. i will be doing my goram part
and i hope everyone else does thiers.

I haven't heard any updates on the comic front, but I know the first issue of the last miniseries was Dark Horse's best-selling title the month it came out (so we were doing our job!).
While you're waiting for the comic, why not check out www.stillflying.net? This is a fan-based project dedicated to a virtual continuation of the series in script format. We've already produced 7 episodes (bringing season one to a close with an adaptation of "Those Left Behind") and will be back with season two later this spring.
Keep flying!

Can't say as I really liked the other comics. The art was pretty horrible. But, I suppose anything to keep the stories coming is better than nothing.

Joss has always said he wants to continue working in the 'verse; in some form, any form. The comics are a good outlet for him to keep it flying. (And I'm not a comic book kinda guy but I did buy the first three.)

I enjoy the comics but I am a voracious reader and they DO not last me. I got through the anthology in around 30 mins.
Still, I will get the comics if they come out, even if I have to actually enter a comic shop instead of just ordering them ;)
Personally I'd rather see some books, hopefully ones that were well written and counted as canon. And maybe a hardback or two instead of a bunch of mass-market paperbacks that fall apart too easily and go out of print after six months.
