When ATAS sent out nomination ballots earlier this month, there was a glaring omission in the list of potential contenders in the drama writing category: Buffy's sublime musical episode, "Once More with Feeling," penned — punch lines, lyrics and all — by series creator Joss Whedon. What the hellmouth is going on here?
Human error was apparently to blame, but an ATAS spokesperson insists the problem has since been resolved. "We sent out a notification to the voters, which allowed them to cast their vote [for 'Once More with Feeling'] almost immediately," the rep tells TV Guide Online. "It was basically a supplement to the ballot. The situation was rectified ASAP and there were no repercussions from it."
Joss just don't get no respect. The full story is here: http://www.tvguide.com/newsgossip/insider/020626a.asp

I wonder how many people missed the supplement...hmmm.

Who's up for bombing the ATAS HQ?
I didn't think they had a vendetta *against* Buffy... but I'm begining to wonder...
Maybe, though, this could garner additional attention from the voters? They could notice the new ballot and say "hmm... I forgot about this! Let me vote for it!" A blessing in disguise, maybe?

It'd be wicked nice for Buffy to win an Emmy for its' writing before it completes its' run next year. The fact it hasnt won any yet, though, only highlights how ridiculous and meaningless these awards are. I just find it almost cruel that Joss has won nothing, because the show is one of the few which would actually benefit a win. Maybe then people would realise the huge achievements of those involved, instead of dismissing it as a kids' show. I mean, come on, the West Wing is a great bit of television, but is it really going to gain any more respect or viewers through winning these awards? It has both those already. In mainstream entertainment, Buffy doesnt. If it won an Emmy I have no doubt it would boost the ratings, and certainly the respect given to the show. People would accept The Sopranos, Frasier, hell even Ally bleepin McBeal as quality entertainment even if they werent award winning. But no matter how much attention the critics give Buff, no matter how dedicated its fanbase, it is still laughed at in mainstream circles. An Emmy would totally change that!
We all know these awards are meaningless, but people still want them. Joss knows that the Emmys mean nothing, but he wouldnt have paid up for a ton of advertising in trade papers last year encouraging people to vote for The Body if he didnt want one, or didnt recognise that such an award symbolises something to others. An award for Buffy would no doubt have been more effective and appropriate a few years ago, when it wasnt known by most people and still sounded like a faintly ridiculous prospect. But its not too late!
Perhaps most importantly, Once More With Feeling is one of the best hours of television possible to see and experience this year, if not in the past few years. Basically, what I'm trying to say is,
GIVE IT A GOD DAMN EMMY!!!!!!!
Grrrrrr........

Oh and, more on topic, the blooper could have perfectly innocent, but I get the feeling that the peeps behind the Emmys might be embarrassed if a show called 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' won an award that didnt involve haircare or creating horns for demons. Especially something as hokey-sounding as a musical episode. Maybe they feel like it would undermine the awards?? Though personally, with all the crappy winners of past years, I think they've done a perfectly good job of that themselves
.
Stay kooky.
