Serenity Might Fly Again!

I'm facinated to know how Serenity in some way or another can't be done. A show that has spent 2 years in the top 10 (now back in the top 5) Amazon DVD sales rankings. And a movie that has been in the top 5 since its release in late December. How can someone not see that this franchise can be very profitable if released the right way. Serenity WILL be profitable (if it isn't already now) thanks to massive dvd sales.

It's obvious to me that Serenity needs to be brought back to the home market. Whether its a direct to dvd movie, a mini series, or a whole new season of firefly, its a franchise that brings fans and merchandise. From a pure profit prospective, Serenity is perfectly capable of making money. Serenity, while not bringing box office gold, has likely at least doubled the fan base of firefly. All who see it, love it. Now is the time to bring it back, as I said, to the home market.

It has won the fight for new fans, and defended the battle for its old fans. It's time for Serenity to fly again.

Serenity did turn a (relatively) small profit at the box office. Combined with the stellar DVD sales, and subsequent merchandising, Universal saw a nifty return on it's investment.

Man I didn't ever see the show on t.v. I didn't go to see the movie. Then one day I'm at my nephews flippin channels and there it was. I watched half an episode and said hey this is a good show. I bought the movie, then the series and now I'm hooked. Bad marketing killed this thing, but we can stay with it and they will bring it back. My nephew now has my FF dvds and I'll make him a true-believer too. Spread the word to keep the dvd sales rollin.

I think that if SciFi could get the rights for a reasonable cost the would do a series without question.

Their Friday night lineup averages a rating of about 2.0, and all three are big successes for SciFi, and make them money simply because SciFi can make these shows at a better cost.

Firefly averaged a 2.5 in its one aborted season, and Serenity did do well (why would you not count the prescreenings when Serenity had so many and they were so well attended?), so for SciFi it would be money in the bank.

The movie only ran for a few weeks here in northeastern Pennsylvania. I was very disappointed, because after fruitless weeks of trying to talk relatives into going to see it, I wanted to go back a second time, myself, and it was already out of all three, local theatre chains.

Most depressing.

Well, Queen, I see you're back to contradicting me again --

In case you missed my somewhat insignificant post above*, I mentioned that the movie was only out for a few weeks here, locally -- probably 2 or 3 at most. I venture that how long it was out depended largely on where it was shown, and local audience turnout -- which mustn't have been very good here.

*I'd venture that my posts contracted whatever your posts had that made them invisible. Really, you should warn people if your posts are contageous, so they could stay away from them.

39 million in the theatres, still in theatres overseas. The decideing factor will be DVD sales and the kind of reception they get At the conventions which the bigwigs from every network and movie company watch. Even if the movie goes straight to DVD it can make money. Keep the faith
