Is the Buffy spin off ever ever coming?
When Buffy went off the air I believed the hype-but i also tried the Atkins diet so i am a bit gullible-so here i am pining still several years later. So w'sup?

Here’s the sitch. When "Buffy" came to an end, several spin-off ideas were tossed about, but nothing came of it, for various reasons.
A year later, after “Angel” got the axe, the WB offered to do a series of “Angel” telemovies over the next season. Most folks thought this was a ploy to dampen the fan outrage with glittering promises and Joss was initially against it. Plus, the leads of the two Buffyverse shows wanted to move on from the characters they’d been playing since 1997.
But then Joss realized he had all these other great secondary characters whose stories had not yet been finished. So he became interested in doing a series of telemovies, each centered around a different character. The names thrown around most often were Spike, Willow, Faith, and Giles. The WB execs have been saying nice things, but nothing actually happened. And the proposed teleflicks dwindled from four to just one, centered on Spike (which might serve as a springboard for more, and would certainly include some other recurring characters anyway).
Joss wants to do it. James Marsters, who plays Spike, wants to do it. Some other actors from Buffy/Angel want to reprise their roles in this or future projects. Because he’s strapped for time, Joss asked Tim Minear to be the one to write & direct the thing, and Tim said yes. Latest word is that Whedon is trying for a direct-to-DVD route.
Where it all is right now is the ugly place where the suits are deciding whether to fund it or not and are sorting out the details. Everything’s very nebulous at the moment, but hopefully Joss can push it through. I know I’ve got my fingers crossed.
