Uh, ReginaRoadie, Tortimer didn’t say he’d watched the first season finale, he said he “didn't rent the first season of 24 but watched it when it first aired.” As in, he watched all twenty-four hours with their twists and turns and cul-de-sacs, and still was not interested in watching any more.

And I, too, watched the first season of 24 when it first aired and have watched all subsequent seasons, but I would never buy the DVDs. It just doesn’t have any rewatchability value for me. I find it only suspenseful and shocking the first time through, after that it doesn’t really hold my interest. But I have ever season of “Buffy” and “Angel” on DVD, which I watch over and over again and constantly find new layers and complexities. For me, 24 is a passing interest, but “Buffy” and “Angel” are, with “Firefly,” at the very top of my list of all-time greatest shows. What can I say? Some people juggle geese.

My bad. Sorry. Didn't realize that he had seen all prior eps leading up to it.

I actually find that 24 has re-watchability. Knowing the twists and turns, you can go back to see the subtle hints towards the twists, and also specific moments that really stick out. I often put on the 1st season finale by itself to get an adrenaline rush. And 24 is a lot more complex than you'd think. I heard it described once as "Greek tragedy with bullets" and I agree with that. Jack Bauer is far more of a tragic hero than Angel. Here's a guy who can save the world over and over again, but he can't save the ones closest to him.

Sweet lord, I'm hijacking my own thread. The whole thing about families that I mentioned above. What do you think about it?

All the way through, ya did it! I ended my fling with The Gift. I may (probably will, that is) pick it back up with the last two seasons, however, someday, if the Chosen Collection comes down slightly in price...or netflix...

Buffy was a wild ride for me, discovering FF in late Feb. 2005 prompted me to start the Sunnydale journey, and I did five seasons before the BDM came out (averaging 1 season per month).
I even worked in the first two seasons of Angel also...
"Gee Chris, you look tired, did you stay up too late last night, and the night before...?"

At this moment I actually only own season 3 (The only one I just COULDN"T let go of; I was buying and then selling to continue my oddessey), but I picked up the season 1 two-parter ($5!!!), Best Of Spike, and Curse of The Hellmouth for booster-shots' sake.

Joss likes to explore dysfunction, in government, families, the world in general. It's not just about surviving, it's about living while you survive, that what I love about his work.

Warning: if you have not finished Buffy there could be spoilers in this message.

I just finished the entire series myself...I tried Buffy after I found FF in December 2005..A few years ago I watched parts of some Buffy episodes and was unimpressed and even began to use it as an example of bad shows that should not be on TV..I am a great example of why you need to see some TV shows from the first episode..After finishing the series I am now a huge fan...

I did think season 1 and 2 were somewhat weak in comparison to 3 - 7..Each episode after Season 2 seemed to get funnier and funnier.. I think how young an inexperienced the actors were is why the early years are not as compelling...I also thought it was fun to see the actors grow , see their timing improve in the comedy parts and to see them hit there marks in the dramatic scenes..

I was somewhat annoyed with Buffy in Season 6..It seems to me that a hot 19 year old with great friends and family would be a little more grateful for being brought back to life then being a crybaby..I know she was in heaven but she was 19 not 99 when she died...I felt Xander and Willow lost just as much as Buffy did in Seasons 1 - 5...After Season 5 I never felt Buffy,Xander and Willow were that close again and it was because of Buffy..In fact while I have been writing this I have come to realize I love the show, love Willow,Giles,Anya,Xander,The Mayer, All the principals,Tera,Oz,The Super Villians,Spike,Sweet and most of the characters..I did not like Faith,Angel,Cordellia or most of all Buffy by the end but like I said I still loved the show and felt that the actors who played these characters did there job I just did not like the characters...

I thought the way Joss made Xander kind of Super hero by being the only one of the main three characters to not have super powers was brilliant...

Thought the Musical episode and "hush" were outstanding episodes...

I have never laughed as loud as i did when Giles,Xander and Andrew are playing D&D on the eve of the final battle...

When I first found this board and could care less about Buffy I remember some posts about Whedons next projects being possibly Wonder woman or a return to the Buffy verse...Does any body know anything about a possible return of Buffy?

Also read interview with Nick Brendan that said the show ended because Joss couldn,t do Buffy,Angel and FF at the same time(plus they had not signed Gellar)...He also said he was annoyed that he had lost a lot of screen time in season 6...You have to figure that most of these actors would come back because they have not become any bigger then they were during the show..

By the way I am going to start Angel tonight. I am a little scared because I heard it was not as funny and I am not a Big Angel or Cordellia fan..

I didn't like Angel as a character at all when he was on BTVS. Once he got his own show, he was able to be much more complex; he is a very layered character who has a lot more going on for him than being Buffy's boyfriend. I love Angel so much because he's a complete bastard who so desperately wants to be good but just can't keep going on consistently. I also liked the show because it's about a demon who lives in a demon world who just happens to have a few buddies who are human. Buffy used demons as metaphors for humanity, but Angel is so detached from life that he has a completely different perspective.

Angel is a more serious show, but it's definitely funny. Angel himself is a dork, but he's oblivious to pretty much everything. So the humor doesn't come from jokes as much as actions.

I watched disc 1 of season 1 last night...I think I already agree with you..In just 4 episodes he is clearly a different character(much more likeable) I guess it was Buffy that made him a somewhat dull character...I also like the way they make fun of his moodyness in the show...I think making him somewhat of a detective puts the show in a different genre then BTVS which is important being that Angel is a spin off..

I saw the season 5 cover and Spike is on it...Didn't he die in the final BTVS ? How is that possible? Which show do you like better Angel or BTVS?

You've seen Buffy the Vampire Slayer and you still have to ask how it's possible for someone to come back from the dead? ;-) It's a little complicated to explain the whole storyline thingie, but the short reason is that the purpose was to get to Angel. You haven't yet found out the psychological errrrr... "reactions" Angel has to his wacky vampire family.

Which show do you like better Angel or BTVS?

That is so hard for me to answer. It totally depends on my mood when I'm asked that question. And right now I'm in the mood to be indecisive.

Realizing that Adam couldn't have always liked Helter Skelter, since he was just made?

I realize it's been a long time since you posted that, but I'm also wondering if you have had second thoughts about Buffy, and have you finished watching Angel?

This is a perfect example of how people can agree whole-heartedly about one thing (Firefly for instance) but disagree about others. I never got into 24 when it originally aired, but recently borrowed season one from my brother. It was okay, but certainly not anything I am anywhere near addicted to. In fact, after I returned it my brother asked if I wanted to take season two, and I said no thanks, not interested. Also, you don't have to believe me on this, but I suspected Nina as the mole very early.
