"About an hour ago our cat, Little star died.
We will get a new cat that is exactly like her!"
That's from my son, who wanted to tell my Browncoat friends of this significant event in his young life (6 years old).
Tears abound, mostly from me; I'm such a crybaby( make your mother sigh...).
Well, going to Re-Pet is out of the Question (What? You didn't see The 6th Day?
), so I guess we go to the shelter...
Anyone else missing a non-homo-sapien loved one?

Holy crap, there is a place in San Diego that actually does that. Only cats though.
It's costs about $54,000... But it's an exact genetic copy of your cat. Wierd hunh.

Hrm... until they can work out the problems cloned animals seem to have with developing congenital and terminal diseases, I think I'm going to wait on Re-Pet'ing my tabby, Hiccup, when she croaks. Something to do with extra free radicals being generated in vitro. Makes them more prone to disease, so while the original may have had a healthy 12 years, the clone might develop feline lukemia that the original only had a latent form of.

Oh, very sad!
I had a cat named George when I was little girl. Apparently his kidneys failed him. He got very sick and died on Christmas Eve. I still think about him every year at Christmas.
I've hat lots of pets die over the years. Each one was special and loved and I miss them all, but I'll never forget poor George and that very sad Christmas.
Please tell your son that the Browncoats send their condolences and that if he gets a new kitty, and it's a girl, we recommend the name Kaylee. And if it's a boy, Badger.

Actually, he wants to give the new cat Little star's name.

Oh, my condolences to you. I have five kitties (including a Zoe and a Kaylee--who should've been named River), and I understand your sorrow. A few years ago, my wife and I lost an orange tabby named Red. We felt we weren't ready for another cat, but our remaining kitty (Red's daughter Thryth) kept bugging us to get one. (If you don't understand how that works, you don't have cats.)
We went to a kitten foster home with plans to adopt another tabby tom, to replace Red. The tabby tomkitten they had, though, was not right for us. Instead, a quiet black-and-white kitty walked across the table and started licking my wife's hand while she filled out the adoption forms. A very energetic young boy ended up with the very energetic tabby tom.
My point in this story is never try to replace a pet. Instead, go looking for a new one--the pet that's meant for you will find you.
Well, I must go. Kaylee is demandin' some lovin . . .
(Maybe we did name her right.)

I've lost 2 cats, one to old age (I had him from 6 years old until I was 24!) and another disappeared out in the country, probably some predator got her. It was just awful both times! I cried and cried. So I really feel for you and your poor son!
I have a new kitty now who's just a year old, and super cute. It does get better eventually!
Ask Dr. Science ... he knows more than you do.

I am sorry for your loss and wish you the solace of good memories. We had two cats, Silk and Brittany, who shared our lives for 18 and 20 years respectively. It has been a little less than a year since we lost Brittany. I still miss them both every day, but I'm beginning to think about adopting a couple more in the near future. When I do, one of them will be named Serenity. My husband will probably get to name the other, so I guess I need to keep working on "browncoating" him.

My daughter just lost her guinea pig "Cos" Sunday morning. She went to feed him and found him dead in his cage after 4 years as a loving pet. She loved him and he worked his way into my heart too.
She told me that it'll be a while before another pet so take your lead from your son.

I'm very sorry for your loss. I know exactly what its like to lose a very special pet. I lost 2 of my cats last summer, one I had since I was 6 (i'm 18 now) and one I had, then lost when we moved, and then I found her 18 months later walking to school.
The first was kind of expected, since he was sick and about 12 years in age. It still hurt, since I had him for so long.
Sierra, my other cat I lost, took off one night, and just never came back. She did disappear twice for a week or so, but she'd always come back. This last time she didn't. She was one cat that can never be replaced, and I am constantly reminding myself that she either found a home with someone else (bastards need to give her back!) or shes in kitty heaven. I'll come after you with a chainsaw if anyone mentions the words "car" or that D word.
Now I'm depressed.
