If it was Obi Wan I'd be concerned with Lucas' deteriorating mental state...he's crazy enough with his characters as is!

Hi everyone!
As a huge SW fan, I liked ROTS, but not nearly as much as I liked Serenity! I think Episodes 1-3 would have been much better had Lucas chosen to make all three about the transformation of adult Anakin from himself to Vader, instead of cheesy midichlorians and Jar-Jar. But hey, I'm not the one making millions of dollars from it 
Anyway, I thought I'd share with you a link I found awhile ago, with screencaps of a Chinese version of ROTS with poorly translated English subtitles! It's hilarious!

It's amazing... Lucas and co managed to turn Natalie Portman into a bad actress. That takes some skill.
Ms. Portman has actually admitted in interviews to having not done the best acting job she could have because she felt that it was beneath her to do better in "Sci-Fi." (Or something to that effect.)
It is a dawgone crying shame that what once was the "Holy Grail" of Sci-Fi, has been greatly tarnished by intentional bad acting and poor scripting.
I saw a clip of a recent release of South Park on DVD W/commentary. (courtasy of IGN) They were speaking O/T about Star Wars. Basicly, to them it seemed that Lucas was surrounded by yes men that were too afraid to tell him the scripts needed more work before going in front of the camera. "Yes sir, Mr. Lucas sir, you are Mr Lucas, you can do anything Mr. Lucas wants to do..."

I saw Ep. III for the first time tonight, and liked it, but no, it doesn't stand up to Serenity--and this is coming from a SW fan of twenty-something years.
The stories in the prequels are fine and all, and they "feel" like Star Wars (at least II and III do), but they're missing the humor and charisma of the originals. You really need a Han/Mal-ish character in a story like this, the charming scoundrel, and the prequels just don't have it. Everyone are Jedis and senators and high-ranking, noble citizens, and the... grit, I guess... is missing.
The quality of the acting is probably what bothers me most about the new ones, though. How do you take the likes of Liam Neeson, Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, and Samuel L. Jackson, and make them look like they just stepped out of an amateur theatre company? Well, bad dialogue goes a long way toward that, I suppose.
I've been reading the books for years, starting with the Zahn trilogy of the early-90s, and what does it say about Lucas' new characters that I'd much rather read the exploits of the Solo kids in the pages of the New Jedi Order than watch Qui-Gon or Mace Windu on film?

I'm writing (offline) a big rant on RotS vs Serenity, and will post it later. I'm just weighing in here as a teaser.
I've been a Star Wars fan for as long as I can remember. Like, obsessive fan, able to tell you the name of the guy Luke sold his landspeeder to (Wioslea), and why cloning Jedi is ineffective (they cause "interference/feedback" in the Force).
Episode 3 made me cry. It was just bad.
No grasp of physics (even the previous movies had at least some grasp of there not being gravity in space, and about how weight and mass move), horrible inconsistant acting (compare Ian McDiarmid's portrayal of the Emperor with every other appearance both before and after), no actual character development/evolution (check out Anakin's oath of loyalty --was I the only one who could hear a switch being flipped? It was just too sudden), and no respect for the audience (Lucas goes too far, and shows things that would be better served as secrets that foreshadow the OT).
RotS should never have been made. At least not in this form; this was a rough draft. The basic plot outline is there, but it needs a lot of work. It should've been revised a few more times by people who know how to tell suspenseful stories and write dialogue.
Ultimately, without the multi-billion dollar Star Wars industry behind it, this script would've been laughed out of Hollywood. There are community college film classes that can turn out a better script.
The novels, specifically the NJO series, are everything the prequel trilogy should be. They're dark, and ruthless, and unsafe. Remember that gut-wrenchingly sudden death in Serenity, and the sense of desperation that followed ('cause any one of our heroes could be next)? Well the NJO novels do that. The GFFA, and the characters in it, will never be the same.
Above all, the novels give us actual characters. General Grievous is a farce, but the thought of a voxyn sends shudders down my spine (seriously, I have had nightmares of being hunted by those genengineered things --like the Alien xenomorph crossed with a Reaver, crossed with every big mean-tempered borderline-rabid doberman I've ever been terrified of). Nom Anor is a more skilled Macchiavel than Palpatine ever was. Vergere is my Jedi Master of choice, not Mace Windu or Yoda. Luke/Mara on a bad day is more romantic than Anakin/Padmé at their best.
Strange how two Anakins (Skywalker & Solo) could be so dissimilar.

I enjoyed RotS, but have no plans to buy it. I converted to Firefly the second I first saw Bushwhacked, on TV...which was the first episode I saw. Missed the Train Job.
But I agree, the books are much better than the movies. I appreciate what Lucas tried to do, but something happened to him. Personally, I think it was Howard the Duck. Good Lord. Heir to the Empire rocked. Grand Admiral Thrawn was such a good character. I hated ... nevermind, read the books.

Yeah, I just saw this flick last night for the second time. It was amazingly bad. I mean, let's ponder Anakin's smooth, gradual transition into evilness. First, he prevents an old guy from being murdered by Samuel Jackson because Sammy doesn't like his political affiliation. The next step for Anakin, of course, is murdering a bunch of children...er, "younglings." Very believable.
Yeah, I could list about a hundred other things I hated...but I'm not going to.
