I'm travling right now and I'm here in Nevada visiting a friend...
My friend, Shawn, said, "You seen the new equipment for the diggers?"
He's referring to the heavy machinery for the mining around here... I love labor so I know some things...
so I said.. "Yeah, looks great."
To fuck with me, he told me, "Whatever, you wouldn't know."
And out of reflex, I responded, "Chu ni duh!" which means 'screw you' in Mandarin.
A lot like Firefly... does anyone here just express yourself in other languages like they do in the 'verse?

Can't say as I spout much Mandarin, though I do now and then come out with a few choice 'ta ma de' or 'hundan' from the show, which my fiance hates.
I've found, though, that I've picked up a lot of the dialect.
The letter 'g' has almost entirely disappeared from my vocabulary. And I like the word ruttin'. And shiny. Everything is shiny. Unless it ain't. I say 'ain't' a lot, too.
Apostrophes and contractions dot my conversations everywhere, as well.
'S'not really good conversation, but it's lots of ruttin' fun. And ain't no one gonna tell me otherwise. 'Cause it's all shiny.

I hear 'shiny' all the time here. And I understand it. Shiny is like the most popular Firefly related word...
..but whats it from? I dont remember hearing it anywhere in the episodes.

you just think you didn't hear it...
watch again, and look for it... its all over the place...
first place i can remember is right after the scavenging on in Serenity (the epipsode) Wash says after they come in the cargo bay
"We look shiny, Captain. They are not
repeat not coming about."
and remember this(same ep.)
KAYLEE
No, it's shiny! I like to meet new
people. They've all got stories...
JAYNE
Captain, can you please stop her from
being cheerful?
MAL
I don't believe there is a power in
the 'verse that can stop Kaylee from
being cheerful.
and thats just the beginnning of the first epipsode!

I'm taking a course right now: the honours project. It's independant study for 4th year students.
Basically, it translates to, here's a project to fustrate you and cause you much pain. Also, it is expected that some sort of paper is produced in the end to prove that work was done and the topic was "understood."
Of course, I regularly have problems that I can't resolve myself and that's what the supervisor is for.
One time, the solution was was just so gorram easy: just couldn't see the pattern. It went from pages of what I've tried, to two
lines.
"Go-se! Why didn't I see that!" says I.
Don't know if he understood, but I think I'm going to have to re-adjust the brain filter a bit
And I also use shiny, and the general style of language, to the extent that the wife has said something. Tee hee. I've toned it down, but just can't seem to stop entirely. Oh well
