Any chance Joss can give us an indication as to whats going on behind the scenes? Would prefer a TV show continuation. How much does the DVD sales contribute to the shows resurection etc...

Flightplan has made over $70 million so far and it made $25 million opening weekend.

$4 million is about what the #1 movie has received on Friday alone the last few weeks, not the entire weekend. That's still very low compared to years past and the summer, but it's still much higher than what you are suggesting.

I'm 47, and my daughter's are 19 and 27 respectively and my Mom is 72. The folks behind me in the theater tonight were in their 70's at least, and there were young ( your age) kids in front of us and couples and middle aged guys. Browncoats come in every age apparently. LOL

We live in a more rural area... closest big town is an hour away.... so I was happy that
the theater I was in today was about half full, more folks than the other day when I went, so I think word of mouth is beginning to work. People are talking about how much they LOVED this movie, and they are prompting others to go with their words.

Gatormarc: Got the numbers from www.the-numbers.com, maybe I am looking at old numbers? Also read somewhere about that movie 'The Island' not doing so good in the US but making hundreds of millions worldwide...anybody know when other countries besides UK and Australia will get the film? Perhaps it will do better overseas.

In interviews, he's been saying that he wants the TV show back. There's a quote on some other site where he says his "rage" at the cancellation finally came out once the movie was done, and that rage is over losing the show and being forced to pick two hours' worth of ideas (for the movie) when really he has a much longer-term vision.

BTW, I'm just back from a rural area, where I had no access to a computer, and on checking things out on my return, I'm really impressed w/Serenity's performance in theatres. I thought that with all the big-name new releases, we'd be way down the list, but we're still at #12! Think about it, guys: that's amazing, for a film that, like, 1000 people knew anything about beforehand. (Exaggeration, but you know what I mean.) I think all shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of thing shall be well (to quote someone besides Joss for a switch). I've injected three intellligent country lads, ages 14-19, with a strong desire to see it, and they can, because it's playing nearby, even in the boonies. Lots of access still, and lots of interest. $80 million was a ludicrous number for Universal to (purportedly) aim at, and $50 million domestic was, too, and I'm getting surer with every passing day that someone with sense, in some studio, will look at the role of DVD sales in building franchises, and put this back on either the small or big screen. I've said this before, but you only have to look at The Bourne Identity--or, for that matter, The Transporter--to see that studio execs understand how DVDs are a lot of people's first-look choices, and a new, prime way of gaining a following for a franchise. We will prevail. I really believe so, and I'm known for being a hard-headed realist (and right a lot of the time, about things like this).

I still want to know where the "Joss-stalking" exec from Universal has gone. It seems obvious to me that she is the one to track, and appeal to if necessary.

Mary Parent is no longer with Universal, and is now working as an exec producer on Joss' "Goners"

It's a distinct possibility. The-Numbers replaces a lot of info daily so if you have caching turned on you may be pulling up an old page.

While Serenity and Firefly alike have a huge cult following within the scifi community, there's a lot of pepople out there who probably have seen the previews at the theatres and automatically decided that it wasn't the movie for them...several movie critics have cited that while Serenity is entertaining and good enough as a film production on a whole, the movie may not appeal to a mass or new audience as in being evidenced by the low numbers at the box office...it also may be too that the reason the box office is where it is at now is because of repeat business from all the loyal fans, going to see the movie three and four times. In any case, there is possibilty the film maynot even break even with it's $39 million production cost. Universal may even lose money in the long run if the the overseas box office doesn't coem through. Scifi films are hard to sell and even harder to keep afloat. Let's all hope that the DVD sakes will be phenomenal!
