As a rough guess I'd say donnie darko was him seeing his life pass before his eyes, just kinda in reverse...
Q: What do you have when you are holding two little green balls in your hand.

The supposed official version is horrifically complicated, and I'll put it in as a spoiler thingy for those who've not seen the film yet:
Select to view spoiler:
An inexplicable event (the jet engine falling from nowhere) causes a corruption that will destroy the universe unless the Living Receiver (Donnie) controls the powers he now has and is successfully convinced by Dead Manipulators (eg dead rabbit Frank), Living Manipulators (pretty much everyone else from the science teacher to his friends) and by events to explain the inexplicable event, in this case by creating a wormhole to take the engine off the plane his family is on and send it back through time to justify it's earlier appearance. He is ultimately convinced to do so by the fact that the chain of events throughout the movie, many of which were instigated by Donnie himself, lead to him meeting the girl he comes to love and then to her death, and that by changing things, and perhaps by killing himself too, he can stop her death from happening.
All this Living Receiver/Manipulator/wormhole stuff comes from the 'Philosophy Of Time Travel' book Donnie is given by the science teacher, which is not real, of course, but can be heard being talked about in the commentary and read about on the official website.
Makes my head hurt sometimes.

I'm having Elevenses!
Well, really, I'm just eating a banana. BUT! It's 11 o'clock. So it counts, right?

Gah, no spoilers for Donnie Darko, I've not seen it yet (keep meaning to but you know life and stuff).
Although it's probably passed its standard no spoiler limit really.
So, if Mulholland Drive is right, that person has to do the next one...

I've tried to keep the waffle out of plain view for folks like you
But is 'Mulholland Drive' right?

The post office closes at noon? That's pants!
(did I use pants correctly?)
My kooky cousin, yes I have kooky relatives, is arriving today. I haven’t seen her in prolly five or six years...not including funerals. The last time I spent any time with her she was moving to New Orleans. Don't worry, she has since moved back to her native California. So, what should I do with her tonight? What if she's not kooky anymore? She's about nine months younger than me, so when we were younger and both living in California, we did everything together. But time and growing can change even the best of cousins....argh, ideas?
Maybe I'll just feed her chocolate and vodka and tape her to a chair to watch Firefly.
fyi: the sweet potato pie was a HUGE hit. The pies were gone before I knew it. In fact, some of my coworkers have asked me to make some for them. I love cooking; it's the transportation of goods that I hate.
