I just read through the whole "forum spam/angry bloke/plain rude sod" thing and I suddenly got thinking just how uncool things are getting - I used to just read stuff here cause I liked firefly and never really had anything to say. Everyone here seemed to be interested in one thing, having a laugh as a group interested in Firefly. So I posted a little and I hoped others would too. And in general new posters are good folk to see and older posters have been welcoming. But more and more often I'm seeing new or irregular posters coming in with behaviour that I never expected to see - that dude is a prime example. The strange thing is months ago if someone had posted that idea, the same arguements would have been put against it but their reaction would have been very different, they'd have seen sense and would probably be posting here having a laugh. Is it me or is the Firefly community getting a greater number of folk turning up who are in fact a liability to the community which has grown here? Is this inevertable as the community grows or can something be done to try and get back that ethos of fair play and respect within the community?

Between threats to cinemas and small websites (ok they messed up and didn't reply to emails etc, but no one likes getting threatened..) over zealous attacks on businesses(the whole warp 1 affair), and bad vibes on the forums we are in prime danger of doing the one thing we are all here for irreperable damage. And I for one, above all else want Serenity to be the success it deserves to be, but this growning feeling of unease has me worried.

Is this something we can change? If so how? I don't know, but am really interested in everyone elses opinion! Any thoughts?

Best £7.95 I'm ever going to have spent.

Just the way crowds work out. The larger a crowd gathers around Browncoat fandom, the more shmucks and general losers there are going to be in the mix. It can't be helped, really. It also doesn't help that fandom is especially attractive to the sort of person who ends up making, shall we say, an unfortunate spectacle of themself. Alas, they tend to do it while loudly proclaiming their connection to their chosen fan group, thereby tarring the lot with their particular embarrassing brush.

My solution (barring chucking them out the back door before anyone sees them) is to have a beer and enjoy life as it comes. What else can you do, in the end?

I can see you.

And in many respects the nature of the fandom has always encouraged a proactive and somewhat aggressive stance, all the way back from when the show was being axed. With the news that our efforts had won the rights to the BDM, further acceleration of marketing and plugging the show/movie seemed justified. For some it's lead to a call to arms through guerilla marketing and tireless campaigning - but as with all things, moderation is key.

But as the man said, what can you do? Hopefully the zeal will blow over after it (successfully?) comes out on general release in a month's time. And if the sequels are made, there should theoretically be less need to prove a point, or to go way too far to grab the public's attention.

But hey nonny nonny and all that. Let's see, where did I put my beer?
Though beer might not be such a good idea with the late breakfast I'm eating. Maybe I'll put it on hold and wait until the afternoon.

Grrrr...not to rehash yesterday's events but I came across that moron Jimmy Olsen's post - the nerve of that boy having a go at our PR! And to suggest you're not a true Browncoat??! Methinks your good friend Summer would disagree.

Anyhoo, he was the one who looked foolish - a) for not picking up on a FF quote b) for not realising how accurate your comment was (he had three "ifs" in his theory for goodness sake), c) for ignoring the fact you agreed with you d) for using the word "spamming" and e) for being a moron.

I also noticed that one of his very first posts was actually in response to someone who moaned about a negative review: "it's called opinion, pet." Funny how noone else is allowed to express their's though...

OK, moving on...gather we're hoping for a new River clip today so huzzah!
