I finally got my father to watch the pilot last night, thinking we'd have another convert.

So after it was over, I called him. Gaaah. He says he does not like hookers being looked up to, he does not like the language, he does not like the anti-religion references, etc. He says there are very subtle things in there that are bad and I should stay away.

Gaaaaaah!!!!!!!!!

Oof. Well, if he won't watch the 2nd half of Serenity, maybe you could try again when Mal's a little less bitter. I mean, in The Train Job he does kick Crow through the engine, but there's also the bit about saving the sick folk.

Good suggestion; I'm going to try to get him to by saying "at least wait to see the actress (Summer) that I got to meet". He is also very upset about Ron Glass being gay. Is he gay? I don't care but my dad sure does. He is upset that a gay man is playing a preacher.

Gaaaah...

Not that I'd care either way.

well you can't win em all. Sounds like your dad is right on the money with his observations. If they contradict his core beliefs, what can ya do? =\

No offense intended, Riverbirch, but I don't care for your father's attitudes, and I'm glad he's not in my fandom.

Never heard any rumors of Ron's preferences, but it just comes down to some lucky guy/lady getting a classy dude. I have to admit I have some problems getting past Inara being put on a pedestel (sp?), but I keep telling myself it is simply a lifetime of teaching that is telling me it is wrong. I know historically prostitution was much more respected ancient times. (Of course, as a woman, I disagree with the current definition of prostitution, and men using women for sex. I am talking about when the act itself was considered as a communication with the gods, a truly religious experience )Love the actress, love the character, just have to open my mind just a bit wider, that's all.

Some things are generational. I remember when I went to see Star Wars (back when there was only one movie that could be referred to with those words). I walked out with my entire world changed. My dad walked out saying that he was totally unimpressed. A few years later, he said he really liked "Clash of the Titans." Oy vey.

Of course, he also thought Pink Floyd's The Wall was no more than a long music video. *sigh* Sometimes, you just can't convince your parents.

Riverbirch, does your father have a problem with his brain being missing?

Hey folks, I posted to complain with people who would share in my misery, not to let my father get insulted. I tried to think of a quote and all I could come up with was: "I love my captain." But that sounds strange. LOL
